According to ESPN Chicago, the Cubs have agreed to a three-year, $2.42 million contract with Rudy Jaramillo to become the team's new hitting coach.
The deal will be officially announced on Tuesday. Jaramillo is widely regarded as one of the best hitting instructors in baseball. He spent 15 years with the Rangers before they let him walk in early October and helped 17 Texas hitters win Silver Slugger awards. He has worked previously with current Chicago outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley, and there's some hope that he'll be able to turn Soriano's career around.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs are close to hiring Rudy Jaramillo as their new hitting coach.
Jaramillo opted against taking a one-year deal to remain with the Rangers, which looks smart with Heyman noting that he's expected to "receive a multiyear deal for about $800,000 per year." That would make him the highest-paid coach in baseball.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Cubs are engaged in talks with Rudy Jaramillo about becoming their next hitting coach.
Jaramillo, the Rangers' hitting coach for 15 years, is the most coveted non-player on the free agent market this winter. The Cubs fired hitting coach Von Joshua in early October and are expected to make Jaramillo an offer that includes a $750,000 annual salary.

Major League Baseball has unanimously approved the sale of the Chicago Cubs to the Ricketts family.
The vote, which included all MLB clubs, took place during a conference call on Tuesday. "We're extremely pleased that the sales process is drawing to a close," said commissioner Bud Selig in a press release. "...We are confident that the Rickets family will be great owners and custodians of the Chicago Cubs. All of us at Major League Baseball are grateful to the Tribune Company for their years of stewardship of this proud and historic franchise." The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of October.

Cubs fired hitting coach Von Joshua.
Joshua took the job when Gerald Perry was fired on June 14. He had been the Triple-A hitting coach before that, and he'll be offered his old job back if he wants. "Basically I told him it wasn't anything that I was upset with him," GM Jim Hendry said. "He didn't do anything wrong. But when you come up from the system in the middle of the year, if things don't make significant differences in improvement, then obviously in my opinion we need to do something different."

Derrek Lee is out of Friday's lineup due to personal reasons.
Lee also missed Thursday's contest and it's not clear when he'll be ready to return. Jake Fox is likely to man first base for a second straight day.
