Derek Lowe told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday that he is unaffected by the trade rumors that swirled around him this offseason.
The Braves entered the winter season hoping to deal Lowe, presumably, but instead found a deal they liked for Javier Vazquez. "What are we, 6-7 weeks away? I think the happy holidays are over, and we’re looking forward to spring training," Lowe told the AJC's Dave O'Brien. He had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts of the 2009 season but is ready to prove he's better than that. The righty is a fine late-round value pick in any fantasy format this year.

 Derek Lowe-S - Braves Dec. 17 - 9:18 am et

Derek Lowe is unhappy with being connected to trade talks.
Lowe understands that it's a matter of "when" he will be traded, not "if," but that doesn't mean he's happy about it. "I take it kind of personal," said Lowe. "Noboby made them give me a four-year, $60 million contract. There wasn't a ransom or anybody holding a gun to their heads. It was a negotiation and that's what they viewed as fair. I would have never even considered going there if I knew that ultimately this was going to happen." Maybe a no-trade clause instead of a few extra bucks would have been a good idea.

According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Braves are telling teams that they're willing to eat some money in order to move Derek Lowe.
The Braves have a surplus of pitching depth and are hoping to deal from that strength this winter for a bat or prospects. Lowe is guaranteed $15 million in each of the next three seasons -- a daunting sum for most clubs -- and he had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts of 2009.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Braves are having trouble shopping Derek Lowe to other clubs.
The Braves have some of the strongest pitching depth in the majors and are hoping to deal an arm for a hitter this winter. But, as Rosenthal points out, Lowe turns 37 early next season, is guaranteed $15 million in each of the next three seasons, and he had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts of '09. It's going to be a hard sell despite his 15 wins. He allowed 232 hits this past season, the most of any NL pitcher.

 Javier Vazquez-S - Yankees Nov. 19 - 9:56 am et

The Braves intend to trade either Javier Vazquez or Derek Lowe, reports Frankie Piliere of AOL Fanhouse.
Neither Vazquez or Lowe will command the quality prospects that Roy Halladay will, rendering them a potential bargain on the trade market. Who will move depends on the offers they receive. The Braves would prefer to unload Lowe, however his contract -- $45 million over three years -- will limit the number of potential suitors. Vazquez has one year and $11.5 million left on his contract. After going 15-10 with a 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 2009, he will draw more interest.

 Derek Lowe-S - Braves Nov. 11 - 4:00 pm et

Braves general manager Frank Wren will look to field offers on their starting pitching depth.
"We're in a position where people know we have an excess in starting pitching," Wren said. There's little doubt that the Braves would like to move Derek Lowe, but the three years and $45 million remaining on his contract will be awful tough to move. They'll likely pursue a trade where they can find a corner outfielder with power.
