Brett Tomko is working towards a April 1 start date after being shut down with nerve damage in mid-September.
It's been a long road back from Tomko, as he only recently resumed throwing. The 36-year-old strained a muscle that pinched a nerve in his upper right arm, atrophying his biceps. The biceps and nerve are back to normal, but the lower part of his arm is still susceptible to "electric shocks" and may experience numbness for up to a year. He had a poor stint in the beginning of the year with the Yankees out of the bullpen, but posted a 2.95 ERA and 22/6 K/BB over six starts for the A's before being shut down. He mentioned Oakland and San Francisco as preferred destinations.

Brett Tomko (arm) has been shut down for the rest of the season.
Tomko was diagnosed with nerve damage in his throwing arm earlier this week. He'll finish the year 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA over his last six starts. The impending free agent has said he'd like to re-sign with Oakland, but other teams might desire his services after such a fine finish. A bidding war for Brett Tomko? Should be a fun offseason.

According to MLB.com's Mychael Urban, A's right-hander Brett Tomko woke up Tuesday with elbow discomfort and will miss at least one start.
Team doctors later discovered that he has an irritated nerve in his throwing elbow. It's too bad. Tomko was cruising along with a 4-1 record and 2.95 ERA in six starts with the A's, and even told reporters Monday evening that he is hoping to remain in Oakland next season. Dana Eveland is likely to fill in Sunday.

Brett Tomko is interested in returning to the Athletics for the 2010 season.
"It's a huge deal for me now (to finish the season strong) and hopefully we'll talk here about a deal," said Tomko. "But it's definitely important because you want to set yourself up going into free agency." Tomko is 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA this season, but including his complete-game shutout against the Rangers on Monday night, Tomko is 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in six starts since joining the Athletics.

Brett Tomko hurled a complete-game shutout as the A's pounded the Rangers 9-0 on Monday night.
Tomko allowed five hits, but faced only two minimum while needing only 114 pitches as he induced three double plays in the absolute gem. Tomko is now amazingly 4-1 with a 2.94 ERA since joining the Athletics rotation, but we still can't recommend him. The Rangers offense is really down in the dumps right now.

Brett Tomko yielded three runs over 5 1/3 innings in an 11-3 win over the White Sox on Tuesday night.
Go figure. Tomko is now 3-1 with a 3.90 ERA in his first four starts with the Athletics. That said, he scattered six hits, including two homers in the outing. That makes seven homers allowed over his last four starts. Yeah, this is a guy you want to stay away from in all formats.
