Homer Bailey struck out seven Pirates in six shutout innings to pick up a win on Sunday.
Bailey walked three and gave up seven hits, but only one of them went for extra bases and Bailey pitched himself out of the jams he created. Bailey's overall numbers on the season aren't impressive, but over his last nine starts he had a 1.70 ERA and a 53/24 K/BB in 58 1/3 innings. There's certainly some luck in that ERA and facing the Pirates on four of those occasions helps considerably, but it's still a step forward for Bailey. He'll be a sleeper next spring. |
