Homer Bailey struck out seven Pirates in six shutout innings to pick up a win on Sunday.
Bailey walked three and gave up seven hits, but only one of them went for extra bases and Bailey pitched himself out of the jams he created. Bailey's overall numbers on the season aren't impressive, but over his last nine starts he had a 1.70 ERA and a 53/24 K/BB in 58 1/3 innings. There's certainly some luck in that ERA and facing the Pirates on four of those occasions helps considerably, but it's still a step forward for Bailey. He'll be a sleeper next spring.

Homer Bailey hurled seven innings of one-run ball in a 7-1 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday night.
Yet another solid start by Bailey. He gave up seven hits while walking just one and striking out seven. Bailey has allowed three runs or less in eight consecutive starts, lowering his ERA to 4.78 -- his low-water mark for the year. Bailey has won five out of his last six decisions to improve to 7-5 over 19 starts.

Homer Bailey allowed two runs over six innings in a 12-2 win over the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Despite not striking out a batter, Bailey cruised through the light-hitting Pirates lineup with relative ease, allowing just four hits while walking three. It was his fourth win in his last five decisions. Bailey is now 6-5 with a 5.02 ERA over 19 starts this season. The Reds will need him to be the real deal in 2010, especially with Edinson Volquez expected to miss nearly all of the 2010 season following Tommy John surgery.

Homer Bailey blanked the Marlins over seven innings, but was saddled with a no-decision in an eventual 4-3 loss on Friday night.
Tough one to take. Bailey allowed just three singles -- one in each of the first three innings -- while walking two and tying a season-high with eight strikeouts. Francisco Cordero blew the save in epic fashion in the top of the ninth, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Bailey has a 1.98 ERA over his last six starts.
 Homer Bailey-S - Reds Sep. 13 - 5:35 pm et

Homer Bailey took a loss after yielding three runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs on Sunday.
Bailey walked just two and struck out six. Eight of the nine hits he gave up were also singles, so the outing actually wasn't so bad. Bailey's given up just eight runs over his last five starts while posting an impressive 31 strikeouts and disappointing 15 walks in 32 1/3 innings. NL-only leaguers can hope the streak continues with the Marlins due up next.
 Justin Lehr-R - Reds Sep. 9 - 7:40 pm et

Justin Lehr had a successful bullpen session Wednesday and will start Friday against the Cubs.
Lehr missed a start with a strained groin. He will start Friday, with Johnny Cueto taking the hill Saturday and Homer Bailey going on Sunday.
