 Scott Eyre-R- PhilliesJan. 7 - 3:48 pm et
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that left-hander Scott Eyre has decided to retire.
Eyre announced his decision during a Thursday phone interview with MLB.com after negotiations on a major league contract broke down with the Phillies. "I go out playing in back-to-back World Series," Eyre said. I won one of them. I lost two of them. I've been to three, so it's not like I didn't accomplish anything in my career. I pitched in a whole bunch of games and had a lot of fun doing it." Eyre finishes his career with a 4.23 ERA in 13 major league seasons. He posted a 1.50 ERA in 42 appearances with the Phillies last season.

 Scott Eyre-R - Phillies Jan. 6 - 9:11 am et

Scott Eyre is not expected back with the Phillies in 2010.
The Phillies welcomed Danys Baez on Tuesday and seem to be happy with their current bullpen makeup. "I don't believe he'll be a Phillie next year, based on a discussion I had with his representative, Tommy Tanzer, this morning," said GM Ruben Amaro Jr.. The 37-year-old southpaw posted a 1.50 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 30 innings last season and should find a gig elsewhere.

 Fernando Rodney-R - Angels Dec. 22 - 11:04 pm et

MLB.com's Todd Zolecki was told by a source "that talks aren't serious" between the Phillies and free agent reliever Fernando Rodney.
Rodney is reportedly in serious discussions with the Angels. If Los Angeles seals that deal, the Phillies could turn their attention to a host of relievers for bullpen help, including John Smoltz, Mike MacDougal or Danys Baez, amongst others. Chan Ho Park and Scott Eyre could also be candidates to return, although Amaro has said Park is unlikely to re-sign.

According to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi, the Phillies have offered left-hander Scott Eyre a minor league contract.
Eyre, however, is hoping to land a major league deal. The 37-year-old southpaw posted a 1.50 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 30 innings this past season for the Phillies. He was limited mid-season by a left elbow injury.

The Phillies did not offer arbitration to LHP Scott Eyre or RHP Chan Ho Park.
As expected. Eyre, 37, posted a 1.50 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 30 innings this past season. The Phillies are interested in retaining him, but not at the salary he would have received through the arbitration process. This might be his last chance to truly test the free agent waters. Park posted a 4.43 ERA and a 73/33 K/BB ratio over 45 appearances (seven starts) in 2009.

In discussions with Scott Eyre's agent, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. isn't convinced that the 37-year-old southpaw won't sign elsewhere.
Eyre has previously expressed that he would play for the Phillies next season or retire, but Amaro isn't so sure. "I’ve heard that noise before, and I’ve seen guys play a long time after the statement is made," Amaro said. "The almighty dollar always speaks the loudest. Just like in any negotiation, it takes two to tango. We may have a difference of opinion in terms of the value. If that’s the case, and someone else views him at a higher value, we may risk losing him." Eyre recently underwent minor surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow after managing a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings in 2009.
