| Javier Vazquez's 2010 Profile | | Baseball’s most frustrating pitcher turned in a career year in what proved to be his lone year in Atlanta, winning 15 games and setting new personal bests in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts. That wasn’t especially surprising; he was in a far better situation than he had been at any point since his days with the Expos. What was stunning was that the Yankees were so impressed by the turn of events that they reacquired him in the offseason. Vazquez flopped in his original stint with the Bombers in 2004. While he had a decent 14-10 record, he posted a 4.91 ERA that ranked as his worst of the decade and he gave up 12 runs in 11 1/3 innings in the postseason. The Yankees are hoping he’s a changed man now, but Vazquez has never handled pressure well, and even if he does turn in a reasonably strong season, he’ll probably give up close to 30 homers and post an ERA around 4.00 simply because of the league and ballpark switch. He was a borderline top-10 pitcher in mixed leagues as a Brave. As a Yankee, he falls just outside the top 20. | | Year | Tm | G | GS | IP | W | L | HLDS | S | K | ERA | WHIP | | Proj | NYY | - | - | 210.0 | 15 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 200 | 4.11 | 1.24 | | 2009 | ATL | 32 | 32 | 219.1 | 15 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 238 | 2.87 | 1.03 | | 2008 | CWS | 33 | 33 | 208.1 | 12 | 16 | 0 | 0 | 200 | 4.67 | 1.32 | | 2007 | CWS | 32 | 32 | 216.2 | 15 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 213 | 3.74 | 1.14 |

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Braves are prepared to send Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan to the Yankees for outfielder Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn and a prospect.
The unnamed "prospect" may be RHP Arodys Vizcaino, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. In one fell swoop, the Yanks have acquired an excellent starter and freed up a spot in their outfield for a top free agent. Logan, 24, had a 5.19 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings for the Braves this season. Dunn, who's also 24 and is headed to Atlanta, posted a 3.31 ERA and 1.41 WHIP between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Cabrera, 25, hit .274/.336/.416 in 2009 with 13 home runs, 28 doubles, 10 stolen bases and 68 RBI in 485 at-bats. Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter
