Javier Vazquez told a Puerto Rican newspaper Thursday that he doesn't plan on continuing his baseball career for too much longer.
Odd timing, considering the 33-year-old Vazquez hits free agency in 2011. "I don't have much playing time left," he told the newspaper La Perla del Sur. "It is up to God. I go year by year, and I don't know if it will be one, two or three years, but I'm definitely not going to play until 40." What team would give him a lucrative multi-year contract with knowledge of that kind of mindset?

Yankees acquired RHP Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan from the Braves for OF Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn and RHP Arodys Vizcaino.
The Yankees are expected to take on all of Vazquez's $11.5 million contract for 2010. Of course, that's no sweat for the Bombers. They've just landed themselves a a legitimate 2009 Cy Young Award candidate to bolster a pitching staff that already includes CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte. The 33-year-old Vazquez posted a 14-10 record and a 4.91 ERA in 32 starts for the Yankees back in 2004 and finished with a 15-10 record, 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP for the Braves in '09.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has confirmed that the Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan from the Braves for outfielder Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn and RHP Arodys Vizcaino.
The deal is basically complete, and only pending physicals from all five players involved. Vizcaino, 19, manged a 2.13 ERA in 10 starts (42 1/3 innings) at the Single-A level this year and boasts major upside. Dunn is also a quality young hurler and Cabrera fills a hole for Atlanta, but the Yankees just landed a top-line starter and now have the opportunity to significantly improve their club with a hard-hitting free agent outfielder like Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. It must be nice to have a limitless budget.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Braves are prepared to send Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan to the Yankees for outfielder Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn and a prospect.
The unnamed "prospect" may be RHP Arodys Vizcaino, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. In one fell swoop, the Yanks have acquired an excellent starter and freed up a spot in their outfield for a top free agent. Logan, 24, had a 5.19 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings for the Braves this season. Dunn, who's also 24 and is headed to Atlanta, posted a 3.31 ERA and 1.41 WHIP between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Cabrera, 25, hit .274/.336/.416 in 2009 with 13 home runs, 28 doubles, 10 stolen bases and 68 RBI in 485 at-bats.

SI.com's Jon Heyman has confirmed that the Yankees are "closing in on a deal" for Braves right-hander Javier Vazquez.
Vazquez will slide beautifully into the Yankees' rotation behind CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte. He compiled a 15-10 record, 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP for the Braves in 2009 and is owed an affordable $11.5 million next season. It's not yet clear who Atlanta will get in return.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are "working hard" to acquire right-hander Javier Vazquez from the Braves.
Vazquez, 33, posted a 14-10 record and a 4.91 ERA in 32 starts for the Yankees back in 2004. He had one of his finest career years in 2009, finishing with a 15-10 record, 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP for the Braves, which should allow them to demand a strong batch of talent in return. The right-hander has one year and $11.5 million left on his current contract.
