According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Brewers have declined RHP Braden Looper's $6.5 million option for 2010.
Looper posted a career-high 14 wins in 2009, but a quick glance under the surface reveals some troubling stats. His 5.22 ERA was a career-worst and he struck out just 100 batters in 194 2/3 innings of work. The right-hander was given a $1 million buyout to take his services elsewhere.

The Brewers have until Saturday to make a decision on Braden Looper's $6.5 million mutual option for 2010.
The Brewers can either exercise the option or hand him a $1 million buyout. Looper, 35, earned a career-high 14 wins in 2009, but posted a 5.22 ERA in 194 2/3 innings. He also led the majors in home runs allowed.

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that Braden Looper underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee on Tuesday.
The surgery was called "routine" by the team. Looper earned a career-high 14 wins in 2009, but his ERA jumped to 5.22, the highest since his rookie season in 1998. The Brewers hold a $6 million option on him for 2010, but it is unclear whether they will exercise it.

According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Braden Looper pitched all year with a torn meniscus in his right knee.
That may explain the 5.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP Looper posted this season over 34 starts. He'll undergo surgery in the offseason to clean it up. It's not yet clear if the Brewers will pick up his $6 million option for 2010.

Braden Looper gave up six runs over six innings in a 12-6 win over the Cardinals on Friday night.
This is about as unimpressive a win as you can get. Looper gave up six runs on 10 hits, including two runs in the first inning and three in the third. He wraps up the year at 14-7 with a 5.22 ERA over 34 starts. Just to prove how overrated wins can be in some cases, John Danks, Randy Wolf and teammate Yovani Gallardo all finished with fewer wins than Looper.

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, Mike Cameron, Craig Counsell, Braden Looper and Jason Kendall have cleared waivers.
As Morosi notes, "Kendall, Counsell and Cameron are scheduled to become free agents after this season, which enhances their trade value." All four are now eligible to be traded to any team, but keep in mind that the deadline for such a transaction is August 31.
