 Carl Pavano-S- TwinsNov. 19 - 10:25 am et
Twins general manager Bill Smith is possibly interested in acquiring a veteran starting pitcher, reports Kelly Thesier of MLB.com.
"Ideally you'd love to have a veteran starter in there from day one," Smith told MLB.com. "We also think that the young pitchers that we have are all going to continue to get better as a group. If there is a fit with a veteran starting pitcher, we are very much open to that. Again, we've got depth but we would love to have a veteran guy that could come in and just calm things down once in a while." While the Twins have already expressed interest in bringing back Carl Pavano, they have also been connected to Jarrod Washburn, who has an offseason home in Wisconsin. Thesier doesn't rule out Rich Harden as a possibility, as the Twins put in a claim on him in August.

 Jarrod Washburn-S - Tigers Nov. 18 - 1:29 pm et

According to FOXSports.com, Jarrod Washburn senses "mutual interest" in a possible return to the Mariners.
"Not saying it will happen, but I know I enjoyed my time there, my wife and kids loved it there, and I think they have some interest," said Washburn. "So, I see that as a possibility." The 35-year-old southpaw was 31-49 with a 4.17 ERA in parts of four seasons in Seattle, but was 8-6 with a 2.64 ERA in 2009 before getting dealt to the Tigers at the trade deadline. Washburn could also see the Twins and Brewers as a potential fit since they are close to his offseason home in Wisconsin.

The Tigers will not pursue Jarrod Washburn or Aubrey Huff as free agents.
"We called both Jarrod and Aubrey this week and told them we will not be pursuing them," general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "We wished them well." Washburn posted a 7.33 ERA in eight starts after coming over from the Mariners in July while Huff was equally futile, batting just .189/.265/.302 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 40 games after being acquired from the Orioles in August. The Tigers aim to cut payroll this offseason, so neither were expected to return.

The Twins are expected to pursue free agent left-hander Jarrod Washburn, according to Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Washburn underwent arthroscopic surgery in late October but is already feeling better, according to his agent, Scott Boras. He posted a disappointing 1-3 record and a 7.33 ERA during his late-season tenure with the Tigers in '09, but had a 3.78 ERA and 1.19 WHIP overall. The southpaw makes his home in Webster, Wisconsin, about two hours from the Twin Cities.

Jarrod Washburn doesn't expect to receive a contract offer from the Tigers.
"The Tigers have not given me any indication that they would like me back," said Washburn. "I haven't heard from them other than to talk about my knee, so I would be surprised if they offer me a contract." And why should they? Though his left knee was probably a factor, Washburn was a disaster after leaving Safeco Field, posting a 7.33 ERA in eight starts with the Tigers, allowing 12 home runs in 43 innings. He allowed just 11 dingers in 133 innings with the Mariners. Despite the poor finish, the 34-year-old southpaw should interest plenty of clubs this winter.

Jarrod Washburn, a soon-to-be free agent, underwent arthroscopic surgery last week on his left knee.
Washburn began feeling discomfort in his left knee about two months into the season. It gradually got worse and undoubtedly hurt his numbers down the stretch. He's hoping the surgery will take care of the pain for good and expects to be ready by the start of spring training. Despite posting a disappointing 1-3 record and a 7.33 ERA during his late-season tenure with the Tigers, he should have plenty of suitors this winter.
