Ryan Dempster struck out 10 Diamondbacks on Sunday but still gave up five runs in five innings to take a loss.
Dempster gave up six hits and a walk, but the Diamondbacks bunched their hits and scored five runs anyway. Dempster's surprisingly excellent 2008 campaign mostly held up, as he finishes with a 3.64 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. His 11-9 record was certainly disappointing, but that was more a function of the rest of the team underperforming than it was Dempster.

Ryan Dempster hurled a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Pirates on Tuesday night.
Dempster limited the light-hitting Pirates to just five hits while striking out six and walking two. It was his first complete game of the season and his first shutout since 2001. Now 11-8 with a 3.51 ERA, he has a 1.39 ERA over five starts this month.

Ryan Dempster held the Giants to two earned runs over seven innings Thursday evening in an eventual Cubs victory.
Dempster made a few mistakes to Giants outfielder John Bowker, but was otherwise dominant. He struck out six San Francisco hitters and issued just one walk as his ERA fell from 3.72 to 3.68 and his WHIP dipped to 1.33. He was left with a no-decision in the ninth-inning comeback, but will try for win No. 11 next week against the Pirates.

Dempster allowed eight hits, but was excellent in damage control. He struck out six and walked just one while lowering his ERA to 3.72. The righty is hitting a late-season stride and is a must-start next week against the Giants.

Ryan Dempster hurled eight shutout innings in the Cubs' 2-0 victory over the Brewers on Monday night.
He rung up four while allowing only four hits and a single walk in the brilliant outing. Dempster has alternated between dominance and mediocrity over his past several turns, but he's definitely worth trusting down the stretch. He'll carry a 10-8 record and 3.84 ERA into St. Louis for his next start.

A little bit of cosmic balance for his bad luck last week, he was granted a seven-run lead before he even touched the mound. Dempster scattered eight hits, including a home run, while walking a pair and striking out four. He'll start against the Brewers next week.
