David Purcey was crushed for seven runs over 3 2/3 innings in a 13-7 loss to the Orioles on Friday night.
Purcey was hammered for eight hits, including a three-run bomb by Matt Wieters in the fourth. The 27-year-old's season comes to an end at 1-2 with a 6.19 ERA over 10 starts. Combined with his spotty output in the minors, 2009 has to be considered a step back for the young southpaw, but he'll have a chance to compete for a spot in the Jays rotation in 2010.

David Purcey held the Orioles to a single run over 7 2/3 innings in a 9-2 Orioles victory on Monday night.
Purcey has allowed only three runs over 13 1/3 innings in two starts since being recalled and rejoining the Jays rotation, but his 8-to-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio during that span -- combined with his mediocre work in the minors this season -- is keeping us from getting too excited.

The Blue Jays will push Roy Halladay one day back for his next start.
Instead of taking on the Tigers on Monday, he will face the Yankees on Tuesday. David Purcey will start on Monday.

Blue Jays recalled LHP David Purcey from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Purcey began the season in the starting rotation, going 0-2 with a 7.01 ERA over five starts before being demoted on May 1. Purcey was 9-6 with a 4.46 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 24 starts with Triple-A Las Vegas.

David Purcey tossed eight scoreless innings Wednesday for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Purcey gave up 10 runs over 8 2/3 innings in his first two starts since being sent down, but he allowed just three hits and two walks in this one. The Jays will contemplate bringing him back if he's nearly as effective over his next couple of outings.

Blue Jays optioned LHP David Purcey to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Looks like the Blue Jays didn't like his home run difficulties Thursday night. Purcey has had a Jekyll-and-Hyde minor league career, but he's gotten consistently hit hard with Toronto. His strikeout rate is the only cause for optimism at this point- and he's already 27. LHP Brett Cecil was called up to take Purcey's spot on the roster. Cecil should make his first start with Toronto on Tuesday.
