The Rockies and RHP Rafael Betancourt avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a two-year, $7.55 million contract.
The 34-year-old Betancourt posted an impressive 1.78 ERA in 25 1/3 innings with the Rockies last year and a 2.73 ERA overall. He will serve as a setup man for Huston Street for the next two seasons, at least.

Rafael Betancourt has accepted arbitration from the Rockies.
As expected. The 34-year-old Betancourt posted an impressive 1.78 ERA in 25 1/3 innings with the Rockies this past season and had drawn a decent amount of interest from other clubs this winter, but he couldn't pass up the nearly $5 million he is expected to earn through salary arbitration.

The Brewers have interest in free agent Rafael Betancourt, but are unlikely to persuade him from accepting arbitration from the Rockies.
The news comes from FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi. Betancourt, 34, posted a 1.78 ERA in 25 1/3 innings for the Rockies this season and could serve as Trevor Hoffman's setup man in Milwaukee. But he stands to make nearly $5 million in arbitration with Colorado and is unlikely to pass that up.

Sources have informed Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com that right-hander Rafael Betancourt is prepared to accept the Rockies' offer of arbitration
Betancourt has until Monday at midnight to formally make up his mind. The 34-year-old Type A free agent posted a 1.78 ERA in 25 1/3 innings with Colorado in '09 and should earn a little over $5 million in 2010 through the arbitration process. He rejected a two-year extension worth close to $7 million in November which he might regret if 2010 doesn't go as smoothly.

The Rockies are hopeful that Rafael Betancourt accepts their arbitration offer, according to FOXSports.com.
He has until Monday to decide. Betancourt is a Type A free agent, so if he declines arbitration and signs with another club, the Rockies would receive two draft selections as compensation. He's not a lock to find a better deal elsewhere. While the Rockies would prefer to keep Betancourt, they are set to pursue LaTroy Hawkins if he declines. Hawkins, who turns 37 this month, previously pitched with Colorado in 2007.

The Rockies are tentatively scheduled to meet with Rafael Betancourt's representatives in Indianapolis on Monday, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Monday is the deadline for Betancourt to decide whether he will accept Colorado’s arbitration offer. If he accepts, he would likely receive a one-year deal around $5 million. However, if he declines, the Rockies can still negotiate with Betancourt. Because of his Type A free agent status, the team would receive two draft picks should he sign elsewhere, but his market will surely be impacted now that he was offered arbitration.
