Alfonso Soriano said Monday that he's excited about the possibility of having Rudy Jaramillo as the Cubs' hitting coach.
‘‘That’s going to be good news,’’ said the outfielder, who worked with Jaramillo in Texas. ‘‘We had very good communication because he speaks Spanish. He’s very good and smart. He works very hard, too.’’ Soriano hit just .241 with 20 homers last season for the Cubs. During two years with the Rangers, and under the guidance of Jaramillo, he hit .274 with 64 home runs.

Alfonso Soriano is already reporting improvement in his surgically repaired left knee.
'He tells me his knee is feeling better, and he's getting stronger,'' manager Lou Piniella said Tuesday. ''That's what we're going to need next year.'' Soriano is expected to be at full health by the start of spring training 2010. He has about five weeks of rehab remaining.

Alfonso Soriano, who underwent season-ending arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week, is expected to begin exercises Monday.
Soriano made an appearance in the Cubs' clubhouse Wednesday and plans to join the team on their road trip to Milwaukee early next week. He estimates the rehab process will take about six weeks.

Cubs placed outfielder Alfonso Soriano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 4, following season-ending knee surgery.
Jake Fox, Micah Hoffpauir, Sam Fuld and Bobby Scales are expected to continue filling in for Soriano out in left field. Fox has the most fantasy potential, but it doesn't appear he'll receive enough at-bats down the stretch to warrant ownership. Soriano should be ready for the start of spring training.

The Cubs officially announced that Alfonso Soriano will have season-ending knee surgery on Tuesday.
Micah Hoffpauir, Sam Fuld and Bobby Scales have been filling in for Soriano in left field, though manager Lou Piniella is using the names-in-a-hat method for determining who will start on any given day.

Alfonso Soriano said Sunday that he hopes to have arthroscopic knee surgery early this week.
It's supposed to be a relatively minor procedure, one that Soriano might recover from within a month. "I'm going to stay with the team and rehab the knee," he said. "I'm going to stay with the team trainers, and work on getting the knee strong. Then, I'll go to the Dominican Republic after the season ends and do a lot of leg work, [and] be ready for next season."
