| Alfonso Soriano's 2009 Profile | | Soriano missed a month with a quadriceps injury in 2007, spent two weeks on the disabled list with a calf problem early last year, and then missed 40 games in the middle of the season after a Jeff Bennett fastball broke his hand. Throughout all the injuries, he hasn't stopped producing offensively, hitting .291/.340/.547 with 62 homers in 244 games with the Cubs. However, he has cut way down on his running. From 2001-2006, he stole 40-plus bases three times and attempted one steal every 3.5 games. Since signing with the Cubs, he's attempted one steal every 5.2 games, which works out to about 15 fewer attempts over the course of a full season. Soriano is a very valuable player regardless of what he does on the bases and should see an increase in RBI this season if the Cubs follow through on plans to move him from the leadoff spot, but swiping 20 bags instead of 40 definitely takes a huge chunk out of his upside and makes it likely that he'll be overvalued on draft day.Updated Jul. 9: Alfonso Soriano was upset about not being informed he was going to be out of the lineup on Wednesday. "That's a surprise to me today," Soriano said. "I think he could have said to me last night, 'OK, take a day off,' especially because [Thursday] is an off day. I'd be like, 'OK, I'll take the two [days].' But I like to know before I come here."
