Ted Lilly (shoulder surgery) has begun a throwing program.
Lilly underwent a procedure on his throwing shoulder in early November and is expected to miss the first month of the 2010 season. The lefty will fall in fantasy drafts this spring and is a decent late-round stash pick. He went 12-9 with a career-best 3.10 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in 27 starts last year.

 Ted Lilly-S - Cubs Nov. 4 - 5:06 pm et

Ted Lilly could miss the start of 2010 after undergoing shoulder surgery on Tuesday, the Cubs announced.
In a release, the Cubs said Dr. Lewis Yocum "found no major damage to Lilly’s shoulder and the procedure consisted of a washout and cleanup of the shoulder" and that the surgery took about one hour. Still, Lilly probably won't be 100 percent for the start of spring training and could miss a portion of April. That's not such a bad thing for the Cubs. Lilly might be healthier at the end of next season than he was this year if he gets off to a late start.

Back after missing one turn with a sore shoulder, Ted Lilly allowed four runs over seven innings in a loss to the Pirates on Wednesday.
All four runs scored in the first, an inning that could have been halted before it got started if Lastings Milledge hadn't broken up a potential double play with his slide into second. Lilly struck out eight and walked two. He finishes the year 12-9 with a career-best 3.10 ERA in 27 starts. That injury issues struck after a three-year run in which he totaled 100 starts was a disappointment, but he was one of the game's most effective lefties.

Ted Lilly has been scratched from his scheduled Wednesday start due to shoulder soreness.
Jeff Samardzija has been tabbed to take his place. Lilly spent close to a month on the disabled list earlier this season with a knee and shoulder injury, so the Cubs are likely to play it safe with him down the stretch. He currently holds a 3.02 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, but can't be relied on over the season's final few weeks. That said, neither can Samardzija.

Ted Lilly held the Cardinals to two runs over 7 2/3 innings on Friday night, but didn't figure into the decision in an eventual 3-2 loss.
Lilly got off to an excellent start, retiring the first nine batters he faced. However, the Cardinals made a bit more hay the second time through the lineup, scoring two runs in the fifth inning. All told, Lilly allowed five hits against six strikeouts and zero walks. He has allowed two runs or less in all seven of his starts since returning from the disabled list. Lilly carries a 3.02 ERA and 1.06 WHIP (5th best in the league) into a start against the Brewers next week.

Ted Lilly blanked the Reds for six innings to pick up a win on Sunday.
Lilly struck out seven, walked two, and gave up just six hits. He's given up a total of six runs in his last six starts to lower his ERA from 3.59 to what would easily be a career best at 3.05. He's also posting a career-best 1.08 WHIP.
