 Tim Hudson-S- BravesNov. 12 - 3:24 pm et
Braves signed Tim Hudson to a three-year, $28 million contract extension.
He'll take home $9 million in each of the next three seasons. The new contract also includes a fourth-year club option for 2013 worth $9 million, with a $1 million buyout. Considering the weak market for starting pitching, Hudson could have earned more on the open market, however he decided to grant the Braves a sizable "hometown discount" in order to stay in Atlanta. Hudson was 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over seven starts in September after returning from Tommy John surgery. The 34-year-old right-hander is 11th among active pitchers with 148 career wins.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that Tim Hudson "has passed his physical and essentially made his three-year contract extension a done deal."
Atlanta may wait until after the World Series to officially announce the three-year extension, but the two sides worked out a deal last week and merely had to "find a doctor that the insurance company would approve." He'll reportedly receive around $9 million per season.

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tim Hudson is expected to sign a three-year contract extension with the Braves by early next week.
O'Brien reports the two sides have have made rapid progress on an extension that will pay Hudson roughly $9 million per season, a rather significant "hometown discount" during a weak free-agent market for starting pitchers. With Hudson locked up, the Braves can turn their focus to cashing in on their starting pitching surplus.

Sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the Braves and Tim Hudson are closing in on a three-year deal.
Rosenthal reported just two weeks ago that Hudson would opt for free agency, but he's backtracking in a big way now. Hudson likely will take a significant discount to stay close to home and pitch for the Braves. He stood to command at least $12 million-$13 million per year on the open market.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Tim Hudson and the Braves are set to resume talks on a contract extension this week.
O'Brien cites a source as saying the extension is expected to be for "at least" three years. Hudson is expected to earn at least $9 million or more annually in the new contract, a relative bargain. The new contract will presumably replace Hudson's current contract, which has a $12 million mutual option for 2010. The 34-year-old right-hander was 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA over seven starts after returning from Tommy John surgery in September.
