Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that it will be tough for the Reds to unload Francisco Cordero this winter.
Cordero fits into general manager Walt Jocketty's supposed plan to trade away some expensive contracts, but as Olney points out, he'll have a tough time finding a taker in such a rich market for closers. Cordero posted a 2.16 ERA and 39 saves for the Reds in 2009 and has two years and $25 million remaining on his contract.

 Bronson Arroyo-S - Reds Jul. 27 - 3:39 pm et

Jeff Fletcher of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Reds "are close to doing something," most likely with Bronson Arroyo, Aaron Harang or Francisco Cordero.
Following a team conference call on Monday, it is believed that the Reds are officially "sellers." The Dodgers, who are not sold on Jason Schmidt's comeback attempt, could be in the mix for Arroyo and Harang, but would prefer a deal for Cliff Lee. The Reds would likely have to pick up some salary in any possible trade.

 Francisco Cordero-R - Reds Apr. 3 - 9:15 pm et

Francisco Cordero gave up three runs in his inning against Double-A Carolina on Friday.
Yeah, it's probably time to start picking up David Weathers in NL-only leagues. Cordero has given up 18 runs -- 16 earned -- and four homers in 10 2/3 innings. His owners should be hoping it's the ankle problem that's turned him into an awful pitcher this spring and not an arm issue.
 Francisco Cordero-R - Reds Mar. 26 - 10:27 pm et

Francisco Cordero's lousy spring continued Thursday, as he gave up three runs -- one earned -- in two-thirds of an inning against the Twins.
Cordero has been more hittable all spring with his velocity down, but it was his command that was the big problem tonight. He walked two and threw a wild pitch before coming out. It's starting to become hard to believe that he's healthy.
 Francisco Cordero-R - Reds Mar. 21 - 9:00 am et

Francisco Cordero will pitch in minor league games over the next few days in order to gain some confidence.
"He's got to find his rhythm," Reds pitching coach Dick Pole said Friday. "We talk about that all the time with starting pitchers. But he's used to throwing three or four days in a row." Cordero's spring ERA currently sits at 18.00 and he hasn't shown his normal velocity. Still, we're not too worried.

 Francisco Cordero-R - Reds Mar. 19 - 10:29 pm et

Francisco Cordero gave up four runs in an inning Thursday against the Red Sox.
Cordero had turned in two clean innings in a row, but this puts his spring ERA back up to 18.00. He doesn't have his usual velocity, and it'd be no surprise to see his struggles linger into the regular season. That said, we'd still feel fairly comfortable penciling him in for 30 saves.
