David Riske, who underwent Tommy John surgery in June, said Sunday that there's a chance he could be ready by Opening Day.
"It's a long shot," said the right-hander, "but it's a possibility." Riske threw just one inning in 2009 and had an ugly 5.32 ERA in 42-plus frames in 2008. But he told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy Sunday that his elbow discomfort stretched back to 2007, when then-pitching coach Mike Maddux tried to team him a breaking ball. Hopefully a freshly constructed elbow will net better results. |
