David Riske, who underwent Tommy John surgery in June, said Sunday that there's a chance he could be ready by Opening Day.
"It's a long shot," said the right-hander, "but it's a possibility." Riske threw just one inning in 2009 and had an ugly 5.32 ERA in 42-plus frames in 2008. But he told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy Sunday that his elbow discomfort stretched back to 2007, when then-pitching coach Mike Maddux tried to team him a breaking ball. Hopefully a freshly constructed elbow will net better results.

David Riske has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
Riske had been pushing it off, but his recent meeting with Dr. Lewis Yocum helped spur the decision. He'll miss all of the 2009 season and some of 2010. The 32-year-old allowed two earned runs in one inning of work this season. He has a 3.61 career ERA.

David Riske has had a setback in his recovery from a right elbow injury and is expected to require Tommy John surgery.
A final determination is expected to be made during a meeting with Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday. If he did undergo Tommy John surgery, Riske could be sidelined for as long as a year.

A visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum Wednesday revealed "laxity or looseness" in David Riske's ulnar collateral ligament.
Riske, who underwent elbow surgery last September, could now be facing Tommy John surgery. He'll try to rehab the ligament over the next three or four weeks before a decision is made, but it's probably safe to count him out this season.

Brewers placed RHP David Riske on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10, with elbow tightness.
Riske had elbow surgery last September to remove a bone spur. He has not looked the same since, which included getting roughed up in his only appearance of the season against San Francisco.
