Bale was also cut loose leading up to the Rule 5 Draft. The 35-year-old southpaw posted a 5.72 ERA and 1.84 ERA in 43 relief appearances spanning 28 1/3 innings with the Royals in '09. He was another likely non-tender candidate.

John Bale left the game after one pitch in the top eighth due to an undisclosed leg injury.
Bale had been healthy since undergoing thyroid surgery at the beginning of spring training. We'll update when we know more. Bale has a 5.93 ERA in 27.1 innings.

Royals activated RHP John Bale from the 15-day disabled list.
Bale underwent thyroid surgery at the beginning of spring training and hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game this season. He looked solid during his rehab assignment and should provide a nice boost for the Kansas City bullpen.

John Bale (thyroid surgery) is moving to Triple-A Omaha as he makes progress in his rehab assignment.
The Royals plan to give him four or five appearances at Omaha. He's expected to return to Kansas City when his 30-day rehab assignment ends on June 3.

Bale continues to make steady progress in his rehab from late March thyroid surgery. He's been on the disabled list all season but could return to the Royals' bullpen in about a week.

John Bale (thyroid surgery) suffered a setback in his first rehab outing Wednesday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Bale tossed only seven pitches before feeling pain in his right glut. It's not yet clear how long he'll be sidelined. He's been on the disabled list all season.
