 Danys Baez-R- OriolesNov. 4 - 7:49 pm et
Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports that Danys Baez is open to returning to the Orioles next season.
Baez's agent says his client "would certainly entertain the prospect of returning," but don't expect the Orioles to be silly enough to give him another $19 million contract this time around. After missing all of 2008 following Tommy John surgery, Baez posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 59 appearances this season. While his strikeout rate fell to a career-low of 5.02 K/9, his career-high 60.9% groundball rate was among the league-leaders.

 Danys Baez-R - Orioles Sep. 24 - 11:00 am et

Impending free agent Danys Baez said Wednesday that he'd like to remain in the AL East next season, but not necessarily with the Orioles.
"I'd like to stay in the East. I like pitching [in the division], and the East is more convenient for me and my family," said Baez, whose family lives in Miami. "I would love to be on a contending team and get into the playoffs." With a 4.24 ERA and an uninspiring 39/22 K/BB ratio through 68 innings this season, he's not going to be in high demand among potential contenders.

 Jim Johnson-R - Orioles Aug. 21 - 8:54 am et

Jim Johnson returned to the Orioles' bullpen Thursday afternoon following the birth of his first daughter.
He missed two games, but should be good to go. "It was worth it," Johnson said. "I am tired, but I will be all right." The 26-year-old has a 2.38 ERA and is 4-for-4 in save opportunities since George Sherrill left for the Dodgers.

Danys Baez will act as the closer on Wednesday.

 George Sherrill-R - Dodgers Jul. 20 - 10:51 am et

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, multiple teams have shown interest in left-handed reliever George Sherrill.
The O's seem fairly open to trading their closer. "If it's something meaningful coming back, something we don't have, a building block for the future, we would have to consider it," said Andy MacPhail, the team's president of baseball operations. The Cubs, Marlins, Dodgers, Brewers and Angels are among the clubs that have shown a good amount of interest. If Sherrill departs, ninth-inning responsibilities would probably fall to right-hander Danys Baez. But bear in mind that Baez is also on the market and could be dealt rather quickly.

Manager Dave Trembley has indicated that he's not currently considering Danys Baez as a candidate for the closer job.
Baez has thrown 8 2/3 scoreless innings in his last five games, but Trembley appears to prefer using the former closer in a middle relief capacity. That leaves George Sherrill, Chris Ray and Jim Johnson vying for saves in the Baltimore bullpen for now.
