Phillies signed OF DeWayne Wise to a minor league contract.
Wise, who turns 32 in February, opted for free agency in October after batting just .225/.262/.366 in 142 at-bats with the White Sox in 2009. Of course, his season is probably best remembered for saving Mark Buehrle's perfect game in July. Though he didn't get a major league deal, he'll be nice insurance at the Triple-A level.

DeWayne Wise has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte.
Wise managed a measly .225/.262/.366 batting line over 142 at-bats this season at the major league level and went 9-for-27 during a short stay in the minors. He'll try to latch on with another club as a utility outfielder. The 31-year-old can still cover some ground and run the bases fairly well.

Wise has been sidelined since August 18 due to a strained AC joint in his right shoulder. His .200/.240/.348 line in 115 at-bats this season tells you that whatever value he has is purely on defense.

White Sox placed OF DeWayne Wise on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with a strained AC joint in his right shoulder.
The White Sox made the move in order to make room for Tuesday's starter Freddy Garcia on the 25-man roster. He was batting .200/.240/.348 with two homers and nine RBI this season.

DeWayne Wise had a walk-off RBI single in a 3-2 win over the Yankees on Friday night.
Wise, who entered for defense in the eighth inning, showed that he can occasionally contribute with the bat, punching a single to center field to score Scott Podsednik for the game-winner. Still, he's batting just .193/.235/.312 in 109 at-bats this season and isn't considered a fantasy option.

Jermaine Dye is out of the lineup Sunday due to a sore right calf.
According to the Chicago Tribune, "the injury has limited his initial bursts down the first base line and toward fly balls." With an off day Monday, it's an ideal time for Dye to pick up a couple days of rest. DeWayne Wise is manning right field and batting fifth in the lineup.
