 Omir Santos-C- MetsDec. 5 - 9:39 am et
Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reports the Mets were unhappy with Omir Santos' defense in 2009.
The criticism extends to Brian Schneider as well. Schneider just signed a deal to become a Phillie while Santos is not expected back with the major league club in 2010. Given the Mets' newfound depth, it's likely he is either traded or non-tendered. New York has signed catchers Chris Coste and Henry Blanco in an attempt to boost their catching depth ahead of 23-year old Josh Thole, considered by many the future catcher of the Mets.

 Brian Schneider-C - Phillies Dec. 1 - 1:59 pm et

Brian Schneider will receive $2.75 million in his two-year contract with the Phillies.
Though it is two years, the terms are pretty hard to get worked up about. Schneider, who just turned 33 last month, will earn $1.25 million in 2010 and $1.5 million in 2011. The Pennsylvania native batted .218/.292/.335 with three homers and 24 RBI over 170 at-bats while tossing out 34 percent of would-be basestealers in 2009.

 Brian Schneider-C - Phillies Dec. 1 - 12:45 pm et

Phillies signed C Brian Schneider to a two-year contract.
The exact financial details are not yet available, but Schneider has passed his physical and is officially a member of the Phillies. The Allentown, Pa. native grew up rooting for the team, which made the signing easy. He hit just .218/.292/.335 in 2009 but is typically a solid defender and probably won't see many starts behind starter Carlos Ruiz.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Phillies have agreed to terms with free agent catcher Brian Schneider on a two-year contract.
Schneider will serve as backup to Carlos Ruiz in Philadelphia. The 33-year-old hit .218/.292/.335 with three homers and 24 RBI over 194 plate appearances in 2009. He is a .251/.323/.374 career hitter.

 Henry Blanco-C - Mets Nov. 30 - 4:10 pm et

The Mets are in discussions with free agent catcher Henry Blanco, sources tell Foxsports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Multiple teams have expressed interest in the 38-year old who threw out 40 percent of would-be basestealers during the 2009 season for the Padres. The Mets have a hole at catcher, with free agent Brian Schneider leaving the team and only Omar Santos and Josh Thole at the position on the roster. Blanco hit .235/.320/.382 in 67 games last season. His defensive wizardry and acceptable offense should net a nice salary.

The Rockies are showing interest in free agent Brian Schneider, according to the Denver Post.
Schneider's defense and offense have both fallen off a cliff, but used strictly as a backup, he might still have something to offer. The Rockies need someone to pair with Chris Iannetta since Yorvit Torrealba is expected to depart.
