General manager Ken Williams told reporters that outfielder Scott Podsednik is unlikely to return next season.
"I think that is not likely based on what he wants, so we will keep getting after it in other areas," said Williams in regards to Podsednik. The 33-year-old outfielder had one of the better comeback seasons in the majors in 2009, batting .304/.353/.412 with seven homers, 48 RBI and 30 stolen bases while being a spark plug atop the White Sox lineup. While Podsednik will get his money elsewhere, early chatter says the White Sox could be in the mix for Johnny Damon.

 Scott Podsednik-OF - White Sox Oct. 9 - 5:36 pm et

According to Mike Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox have had preliminary discussions to bring Scott Podsednik back next season.
"It's in the early stages," said Podsednik's agent Ryan Gleichowski. The 33-year-old outfielder came out of nowhere to hit .304/.353/.412 with seven homers, 48 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 537 at-bats this season. The two sides plan to talk again later this month. While he deserves a sizable raise, Podsednik is a cheaper option that Chone Figgins out of the leadoff spot.

 Scott Podsednik-OF - White Sox Oct. 2 - 9:40 pm et

Scott Podsednik was 3-for-4 with a home run in a win over the first-place Tigers on Friday night.
Podsednik set the tone with a leadoff home run against Edwin Jackson. One of the few bright spots offensively of late, Podsednik is batting .306/.355/.416 with seven homers, 47 RBI, 29 stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 529 at-bats this season. It's been a true bounceback campaign.
 Jermaine Dye-OF - White Sox Sep. 22 - 4:07 pm et

Jermaine Dye is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Twins.
Alex Rios will start in right field, with Scott Podsednik in center and Carlos Quentin in left. Dye had a monster first half, but is batting just .168/.276/.260 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 196 at-bats since the All-Star break. The White Sox were unlikely to bring him back next season anyway, but his lack of production in the second half makes it a virtual certainty.

 Paul Konerko-1B - White Sox Aug. 22 - 3:54 pm et

Paul Konerko and Alex Rios are out of the lineup against Orioles Saturday's lineup against the Orioles.
Konerko is hitting just .197 with two homers and four RBI this month, so he could a breather. Mark Kotsay will fill in at first base with Scott Podsednik patrolling center field.

 Scott Podsednik-OF - White Sox Aug. 18 - 12:44 am et

Scott Podsednik delivered a go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth on Monday night as the White Sox skimmed past the Royals 8-7.
The Royals had closed the gap on the Sox in the top of the inning thanks to a three-run bomb off the bat of Mike Jacobs, but Pods came right back with the clutch knock. It was the second hit of the game for Podsednik, who got the start at DH with Alex Rios once again assuming center-field duties.
