Nationals signed RHP Jason Marquis to a two-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but he will reportedly earn $15 million over the length of the contract. Marquis, 31, was 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with the Rockies in 2009, earning his first All-Star nod, but a 4.56 ERA in the second half banished him to bullpen duty during the NLDS. Marquis has a middling 4.48 ERA over 10 career seasons, but this signing is about adding a workhorse to compliment a young staff. Logging at least 190 innings in five out of the last six seasons, that's exactly what the Nationals will get.

According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Nationals and free agent Jason Marquis have agreed on a two-year, $15 million deal pending a physical.
Marquis earned $9.875 million in 2009 while going 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP for the Rockies. His ERAs of 4.60 and 4.53 the two previous seasons with the Cubs are probably a better indicator of expected future success, especially because of the mediocre 115/80 K/BB ratio he posted last season while still dancing from enough trouble to post a solid ERA in Coors Field. Marquis will slot near the front of Washington's rotation in 2010. Fantasy owners can expect value regression from the 31-year-old.

According to an MASN.com report, the Nationals have signed free agent starter Jason Marquis.
The terms of the deal have not yet been released, but Marquis was seeking a multi-year contract. He went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2009 for the Rockies. Marquis will front a revamped Nationals rotation in 2010, and will also help shepherd the club's talented flock of young starters.

According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson, there is mutual interest between free agent starter Jason Marquis and the Nationals.
"I want to play for a team that is headed in the right direction and making the moves that is necessary to get themselves back to being a winning organization," Marquis said. "Some of the moves the Nationals have made -- like [signing Stephen Strasburg] signing Pudge [Ivan Rodriguez] and getting [Brian Bruney] -- they are making the necessary steps. I feel I can fit right in and bring a winning attitude to the team. Every where I've been, I've won. I feel it's not a coincidence. I want to help a team get over the hump." Marquis went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2009 and is being courted by a handful of teams. He earned $9.875 million this year.

Team officials advised not to get "too excited" about Jason Marquis coming to the Orioles, reports Roch Kubato of MASNSports.com.
Cancel the party, everybody. Kubato writes that Marquis is mostly out of play now that the Orioles have secured veteran Kevin Millwood. Things could change if they are able to trade Jeremy Guthrie. But with the rotation as currently constructed, the club is far more likely to pursue a buy-low type coming off injury like former Oriole Erik Bedard.
