 Eric Byrnes-OF- MarinersJan. 29 - 7:15 pm et
Mariners signed OF Eric Byrnes to a one-year contract.
The Diamondbacks are on the hook for $11 million while Byrnes will almost certainly make the major league minimum with Seattle. The 33-year-old outfielder isn't going to be an everyday player anymore, but something will have to give in an outfield/designated hitter situation that also includes Michael Saunders, Ken Griffey Jr. and Milton Bradley. Byrnes has batted just .218/.271/.382 over the past two seasons since landing his big contract.

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times reports that the Mariners have signed OF Eric Byrnes to a one-year contract.
Jack Z was in the market for a right-handed bat and part-time left fielder so Byrnes should do the trick. The oft-injured 33-year-old was cut loose by the Diamondbacks earlier this month and will join the Mariners at the major league minimum. It's worth a shot if Byrnes can add some speed and defense off the bench.

Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com reports that Eric Byrnes is not a possibility for the Giants.
Urban writes that the door appears to have shut -- or never even opened -- on the 33-year-old outfielder, despite his vocal interest in coming to San Francisco. Byrnes was released by the Diamondbacks last week and can now be signed for the major league minimum with any team. Urban believes the Giants are done with any real offseason shopping.

Diamondbacks released OF Eric Byrnes.
Byrnes was designated for assignment last week, but it was pretty clear that general manager Josh Byrnes wasn't going to find any late trade interest in the oft-injured outfielder. The club is now on the hook for the $11 million remaining on his contract. Byrnes, who turns 34 next month, can now sign for the major league minimum with any team.

Eric Byrnes says he would be interested in joining the Giants, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Byrnes was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks to make room for Adam LaRoche. The right-hander is due $11 million for 2010 and will sign for the major league minimum elsewhere after breaking a bone in his hand last season. The Giants are still looking for another bat, and Byrnes could appeal to them both financially and for his ability to play all outfield positions.

Diamondbacks designated OF Eric Byrnes for assignment.
The Diamondbacks needed his roster spot for freshly inked first baseman Adam LaRoche. Byrnes broke a bone in his hand last season and hit just .226 with a .270 on-base percentage when healthy. He is entering the final season of a three-year, $30 million contract.
