According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Marlins have extended an offer to free agent utilityman Ross Gload.
The offer is thought to be similar to the two-year, $1.9 million contract Wes Helms inked last year. Gload, who turns 34 in April, hit .318 as a pinch-hitter this season and .261/.329/.400 overall. The Marlins declined to pick up his $2.6 million option for 2010 about two weeks ago.

 Ross Gload-1B - Marlins Nov. 7 - 10:03 am et

Marlins declined 1B Ross Gload's $2.6 million club option for 2010.
Gload impressed as a pinch-hitter and hit a cumulative .261/.329/.400 in 230 at-bats. The club option is too pricey for a bench player on the Marlins roster, but the 33-year-old is certain to land another job somewhere in the National League. He was a plus defensive outfielder in 2009.

 Nick Johnson-1B - Marlins Sep. 3 - 11:04 am et

Nick Johnson (hamstring) is expected to rejoin the Marlins Thursday.
Johnson has been sidelined since August 17 with a strained right hamstring, but has looked healthy this week in a handful of rehab games at the Single-A level and should pick up right where he left off. The first baseman was 12-for-39 (.307) with his new club before the injury.
