 Pedro Feliz-3B- AstrosDec. 10 - 3:30 pm et
Astros signed 3B Pedro Feliz to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
Quick, somebody swipe Ed Wade's checkbook. Wade has spent nearly $20 million between Feliz and Brandon Lyon in the past 24 hours and we're still wondering why. Feliz, who turns 35 next April, is a fine fielder, but he hit an empty 266/.308/.386 with 12 home runs and 82 RBI with the Phillies in '09. They'd be better off with the much cheaper Jeff Keppinger at the hot corner, especially since they are destined for another losing season.

 Pedro Feliz-3B - Astros Dec. 10 - 1:43 pm et

Alyson Footer of MLB.com reports that Pedro Feliz will make $4.5 million in his one year deal with the Astros.
And that concludes Ed Wade's winter meeting shopping spree. He gave Brandon Lyon a lucrative three-year deal last night, and continued with a $4.5 million contract to a third baseman who hit a modest .694 OPS last season. Sure, it's a short-term deal, and Feliz will do little to hurt the Astros in 2010, but he's a mere stop-gap for a team that isn't expected to compete next season.

 Pedro Feliz-3B - Astros Dec. 10 - 1:05 pm et

According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, the Astros have signed free agent third base Pedro Feliz.
That didn't take long. McTaggart didn't reveal financial details, but it should be close to the one-year, $4 million mark reported earlier. Feliz, 34, had a mere .694 OPS last season and still swings at everything under the sun, but he continues to carry the reputation as one of the better fielding third baseman around.

The Astros are close to signing free agent third baseman Pedro Feliz, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN.
According to Rojas, it will be a one-year contract worth approximately $4 million. The Astros were interested in retaining Miguel Tejada to play third base, but it was their preference to make a short-term agreement. Feliz's $5.5 million option for 2010 was declined by the Phillies last month, as they decided to sign Placido Polanco to a three-year $18 million contract. Feliz, 34, hit .266/.308/.386 with 12 home runs and 82 RBI in '09.

 Pedro Feliz-3B - Astros Dec. 9 - 10:35 am et

According to ESPN's Jorge Arangure, the Twins, Astros and Orioles have interest in free agent third baseman Pedro Feliz.
Feliz had his $5.5 million option for 2010 declined by the Phillies in November and they quickly filled the hole by acquiring Placido Polanco. Now the 34-year-old Feliz, who hit .266/.308/.386 in 580 at-bats this season, is searching for bids on the open market. He should come cheap.

 Placido Polanco-2B - Phillies Dec. 2 - 10:25 pm et

The Phillies are in "serious talks" with free agent infielder Placido Polanco, according to Foxsports.com.
Polanco, who played for the Phillies from 2002-05, would fill a third base hole in Philadelphia. The club earlier declined an option on former starter Pedro Feliz. Foxsports.com cites a source as saying that Polanco could receive a two-year contract worth between $10-$12 million. Polanco has played only one game at third since 2005, but the two-time Gold Glove winner at second base shouldn't have a problem making the transition back across the diamond.
