Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have interest in Xavier Nady.
Nady is one of Scott Boras' clients, so while the Cardinals addressed the Matt Holliday situation at length, they also reportedly discussed Nady, who is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. It would be a tough sell in St. Louis if Holliday bolts for the highest bidder, but Nady could be a low-cost alternative.

According to Tyler Kepner of the New York Times, Xavier Nady (Tommy John) and Chien-Ming Wang (shoulder surgery) are traveling with the Yankees to Minnesota.
According to Kepner, Nady, who is an impending free-agent, is progressing well from Tommy John surgery and expects to be ready for the start of spring training. While Kepner didn't mention Wang's recovery, he should begin picking up a baseball in approximately two months, with a likely return to the majors in June.

Xavier Nady is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday.
Nady, whose contract is up at the conclusion of this season, probably won't return until late next year. He's unlikely to sign a deal while in rehab mode and could remain a free agent well into the summer. The 30-year-old outfielder will finish '09 with a .286/.310/.429 batting line, zero homers and three RBI in 28 at-bats.

According to the New York Post, Xavier Nady will require Tommy John surgery to repair his ailing right elbow and is done for the season.
Nady is also questionable for most of 2010. "It's disappointing," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "I am more disappointed for him than I am the club. You would love to have him back. He has put a lot of time into this. I know how bad he wants to play." He's a free agent after this season, so it's probably safe to assume his time with the Yankees is up.

Xavier Nady (shoulder) removed himself from a rehab appearance Thursday after making an awkward throw from right field.
"We don't know what he did yet but it could be the worst-case scenario," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He felt something and that is what we were concerned about." Nady will undergo a variety of tests Friday. "I want to talk to X and see how he feels," Cashman continued. "But it didn't sound good." The outfielder may have to fold and finally undergo Tommy John surgery.

Xavier Nady (elbow) played seven innings of right field Wednesday in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
As luck would have it, Nady didn't have to field a single ball. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a walk, but the Yankees' main concern is his ability to play the outfield. They won't activate him until he shows he can make all the necessary throws.
