Chone Figgins said Tuesday that he's hoping to bat second in the Mariners' batting order next season.
"I was just personally thinking that Ichiro [Suzuki] is obviously one of the best leadoff hitters in the game,'' Figgins said. "He's able to do what he's doing in the one-spot, so I figure with me plugged into the two-spot, being a little more patient at the plate, it makes an even more dangerous tandem." Ichiro had a .386 on-base percentage in 2009 while Figgins posted an exceptional .395 mark. That's a heck of a one-two punch to kick off the Seattle batting order and should set up RBI opportunities for the rest of the lineup.

Ichiro Suzuki was ejected from Saturday's game against the Blue Jays for arguing balls and strikes.
Ichiro drew a line in the dirt to show where the pitch was. Home plate umpire Brian Runge didn't appreciate that very much. Saturday marks the first time Ichiro has ever been ejected -- in MLB or Japan.

Ichiro Suzuki stunned Mariano Rivera and the Yankees with a walk-off two-run homer on Friday night.
Rivera blew away Jack Hannahan and Mike Carp to open the frame, but Mike Sweeney kept the inning alive with a double to set up Ichiro's game-winning two-run blast. Friday marked the second straight night that Ichiro has won a game on a walk-off hit. It was only the second time that Rivera has blown a save all season long -- the other way back on April 24. Ichiro finished the night 4-for-5 with two RBI.

Ichiro Suzuki had a walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 win over the White Sox in 14 innings on Thursday night.
Watching Ichiro try to avoid getting trampled by his teammates just never gets old. The Mariners tied the game with solo home runs by Jose Lopez and Bill Hall off Bobby Jenks in the bottom of the ninth. Scott Linebrink set up Ichiro's game-winner by hitting Koji Johjima. Ichiro was 2-for-6 with a walk in the extra-inning win. He leads the majors with 205 hits.

Ichiro Suzuki legged out an infield single Sunday night to become the first player in history with at least 200 hits in nine straight seasons.
Appropriate. Suzuki's feat not only showcases his skill, but also his incredible durability. Going into this year, he had played in at least 157 games in each of his eight big-league seasons. He'll finish under that this year, but he still figures to clear 140.

Ichiro Suzuki doubled Sunday to become the second quickest major leaguer to reach 2,000 hits.
It took him 1,402 games. Al Simmons did it in 1,390. With five more hits, Ichiro will get to 200 for the ninth straight season. Another streak is in serious jeopardy, though. Ichiro is still 24 runs scored away from getting to 100 for a ninth straight year.
