Ben Sheets' agent, Casey Close, said Friday afternoon that his client fully intends to pitch in the upcoming season.
Brewers GM Doug Melvin caused a stir at the GM meetings this week when he noted that "no one's heard from Ben" this winter. Sheets' agent attempted to debunk that sort of talk with an e-mail to ESPN.com on Friday: "We have already heard from a number of teams inquiring about Ben's health and availability for 2010," Close said. "I will tell you that he has a very good chance to be one of the most impactful free agents, without question."

Jeff Fletcher of AOL Fanhouse suggests that Ben Sheets may not try a comeback.
"No one's heard from Ben," said Brewers general manager Doug Melvin. Only weeks ago a member of Sheets' camp said that the 31-year-old right-hander had begun throwing off flat ground and would be ready to go when the season begins, so it's hard to know what to believe at this time. Expect to hear Sheets' name again before long.

According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Ben Sheets plans to return to the majors in 2010.
According to a member of Sheets' camp, the 31-year-old right-hander has begun throwing off flat ground and plans to be "ready to go" when the season begins. Sheets was 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 2008, but missed all of 2009 with a torn flexor tendon. Though turning down arbitration from the Brewers last winter turned out to be a miscalculation, Sheets could do quite well with an incentive-laden contract in a what is being regarded as a weak pitchers' market.

According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, three teams interested in Ben Sheets have indicated Sheets won't be able to pitch in 2009.
Sheets had flexor tendon surgery in February, same as Jason Jennings, who needed well over a year to contribute again. Don't plan on Sheets giving your fantasy team a second-half push.

According to MLB.com, free agent Ben Sheets is currently rehabbing with Rangers team doctor Keith Meister.
GM Jon Daniels told reporters Monday that it's mostly just a coincidence. "There's not a connection there," Daniels said. "I think he lives in Dallas and our club is there. He could have chosen to rehab anywhere he wanted to." The Rangers are thought to be interested in adding Sheets once he's fully rehabbed from February elbow surgery.

Ben Sheets underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow.
Dr. James Andrews did the honors and Sheets said afterward that he's hoping to return after the All-Star break. However, the injury cost him the chance to sign a two-year deal with the Rangers and Sheets will likely now try to find an incentive-laden offer from another team.
