 Rafael Soriano-R- RaysDec. 11 - 12:36 pm et
Rays signed RHP Rafael Soriano to a one-year, $7.25 million contract.
The Rays snagged him from the Braves on Thursday for right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez. The 29-year-old Soriano posted a 2.97 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a lights-out 102/27 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings this past season and will serve as closer in Tampa next year. He should do very well on a talented Rays team and the contract should prove to be bargain.

 Rafael Soriano-R - Rays Dec. 10 - 6:17 pm et

Rays acquired RHP Rafael Soriano from the Braves for RHP Jesse Chavez.
The Rays have agreed to sign the right-hander to a one-year deal worth around $7 million, which happens to be below market value for top-line closers. And that's exactly what Soriano is. He posted a 2.97 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a lights-out 102/27 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings this past season and will immediately assume ninth-inning duties in Tampa.

FOXSports.com reports that reliever Rafael Soriano will sign a one-year deal with the Rays for $7 million or "slightly above."
The deal will be made official after an exchange of medical records. Owner Stuart Sternberg recently said that there's "no $7 million closer showing up," but it's funny what the winter meetings can do to a team's plans. They'll get a good one in Soriano, who posted a 2.97 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 77 appearances in 2009. The Braves will likely acquire reliever Jesse Chavez in return.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rays are negotiating a one-year contract with reliever Rafael Soriano.
The two sides must reach a deal before the trade is official. Soriano made $6.1 million in '09, but figured to make around $8 million after he accepted salary arbitration from Atlanta. He had a 2.97 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 102/27 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings last season. The Braves are expected to receive right-hander Jesse Chavez in return.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports arbitration-eligible reliever Rafael Soriano has been traded to the Rays.
The deal is pending a physical, which probably won't go down until Thursday or morning or afternoon. It's not yet clear who the Braves are getting in return, though right-hander Jesse Chavez's name has been thrown around. Soriano should contend for the ninth-inning job in Tampa Bay. He had a 2.97 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 102/27 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings this past year.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports a trade is nearly complete that would send Rafael Soriano to Tampa Bay for RHP Jesse Chavez.
The Rays acquired Chavez from the Pirates in early November in exchange for second baseman Akinori Iwamura. The 26-year-old had a 4.01 ERA in 67 1/3 innings as a rookie for the Pirates in 2009. Soriano, 29, posted a 2.97 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 102/27 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings this past year.
