David Eckstein finished 3-for-6 with three RBI on Friday night as the Padres beat the Marlins 9-5.
Eckstein was awarded a one-year, $1 million contract extension last weekend and has awarded the Padres with a nice stretch of hitting. He hit his 21st double of the season in the fifth inning and raised his batting average to .261. Of course, the Friars are still 20 games under .500.

 David Eckstein-2B - Padres Aug. 25 - 11:18 pm et

David Eckstein was 2-for-6 with a go-ahead RBI double in an extra-inning win over the Braves on Tuesday night.
Earning every dime of that contract extension for 2010. Okay, not quite, but his two-out double off Kris Medlen was the difference in the game. Of course, everyone loves him for his peskiness, but a .255/.316/.326 line shouldn't warrant anyone a raise.

Padres signed second baseman David Eckstein to a one-year, $1 million contract extension.
Eckstein somehow convinced Padres management that he deserved a raise, despite a lowly .255/.317/.325 batting line, one home run and only 38 RBI in 416 plate appearances. The little man earned just $850,000 in '09, but it appears grit and hustle still carry some value in the major leagues.

According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, the Padres are set to extend David Eckstein through 2010 later this evening.
Eckstein signed a one-year, $850,000 pact this offseason to play second base in San Diego. He's batting .255/.317/.325 this season -- well below his career marks -- but thus is life in Padres land.

Padres activated 2B David Eckstein from the 15-day disabled list.
He was originally supposed to be activated on Monday, but the club wanted him to test the right hamstring out first. Eckstein has been sidelined since July 6. He returns to a .267/.330/.337 line with a homer and 33 RBI in 288 at-bats this season.

David Eckstein, not yet ready to return from the disabled list, will test his right hamstring Monday in Cincinnati.
The Padres were hoping he'd be ready for activation Monday morning. "All I can say is that I'm close but I wasn't quite where I needed to be two days ago," Eckstein said. He's been out since July 6.
