Yankees designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment.
Ransom hit just .190 in 79 at-bats this season. He was jettisoned to make room for right-hander Anthony Claggett. Joe Girardi told the New York Daily News that the move was made in order to protect the bullpen. "We wanted to make sure we had depth in our bullpen," Girardi said, according to the Daily News. "We know this is going to be a tough series coming up, teams that really like to work the pitchers, so we wanted to make sure we didn't wear anyone out."
