Phillies re-signed infielder Andy Tracy and catcher Paul Hoover to minor league contracts.
Both players will stick around for organizational depth. Tracy, 35, hit .254/.361/.451 in 453 at-bats this season for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Hoover, 33, hit .253/.329/.339 in 245 at-bats for the same team. Both enjoyed cups of coffee with the Phillies in September; Tracy hit .417 in 12 at-bats and Hoover had three hits in four at-bats for Philadelphia.

Eric Bruntlett has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Bruntlett, a 31-year-old utilityman, hit .171/.224/.238 with no home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 110 plate appearances this season. The Phillies will now look to free agency to find a player that can more effectively spell middle infielders Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. Philadelphia also removed RHP John Ennis, RHP Tyler Walker, C Paul Hoover and 1B Andy Tracy from the 40-man roster, granting each free agency.

Paul Hoover will start at catcher for the Phillies Friday.
Playing time is readily available now that Carlos Ruiz is nursing an aching wrist. The illustrious tag-team of Paul Bako and Hoover will take the reins at backstop for the time being. Hoover was called up September 3 as an emergency third catcher.

Phillies purchased the contract of C Paul Hoover from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Hoover will serve as the Phillies' emergency third catcher for the final few weeks of the regular season. He hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2008, when he finished with a .200/.238/.225 batting line in 40 at-bats with the Marlins.
