Austin Kearns (thumb) isn't expected to return before the end of the year.
Kearns underwent surgery over a month ago on his injured right thumb. "Unless something unexpectedly happens, we probably will not see him again," GM Mike Rizzo said Friday. "He just started gripping exercises and then it will go to taking balls off the tee, dry swings. So it's a long process from where he is at." Kearns' $10 million option for 2010 will, in all likelihood, not be picked up. Source: MLBlogs
