According to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford, the Red Sox have not approached Victor Martinez or his representatives about a contract extension.
Martinez is only under team control for another year, but it sounds like the Red Sox have their attention elsewhere at the moment. "The bottom line is that we’re content," said V-Mart's agent, Alan Nero. "He’s happy to be a Red Sox, and he’s going to be a Red Sox for the next year." Boston could stir up talks later this winter or at some point during the season.

 Victor Martinez-C - Red Sox Nov. 9 - 1:01 pm et

Red Sox exercised catcher Victor Martinez's $7.1 million option for 2010.
Obviously no surprise. Martinez hit .336/.405/.507 for the Red Sox after coming over in a midseason deal with the Indians and will be the team's starting catcher in 2010 regardless of whether Jason Varitek returns.

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein made it clear Monday that Victor Martinez will be the team's starting catcher in 2010.
There shouldn't have been any doubt. Martinez hit .336/.405/.507 during his time with the Red Sox this season and is one of the top offensive catchers in the game. Epstein said he will hold discussions with Jason Varitek on returning as a backup, but the veteran probably craves more playing time.

 Victor Martinez-C - Red Sox Oct. 9 - 9:35 am et

Victor Martinez will catch starter Josh Beckett in Game 2 of the ALDS.
Beckett tends to be a bit more comfortable with Jason Varitek, but this decision was all about offense. Martinez is 3-for-8 with four walks against Angels Game 2 starter Jered Weaver and Varitek is 3-for-12 with two strikeouts. The Red Sox were shut out on Thursday night, and trail the first-round series 0-1 heading into Friday's action.

 David Ortiz-DH - Red Sox Sep. 30 - 4:33 pm et

The Red Sox are resting the majority of their regulars on Wednesday, one night after clinching a spot in the postseason.
David Ortiz is starting, but he doesn't have much in the way of a lineup around him. Kevin Youkilis, Victor Martinez, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Bay and Dustin Pedroia are all getting the night off. That's bad news for Time Wakefield and good news for the starting pitcher Toronto is sending to the hill -- some guy named Roy Halladay.

 Jason Varitek-C - Red Sox Sep. 29 - 3:52 pm et

Jason Varitek is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
Victor Martinez will start in his place. Tek' is batting just .155/.247/.233 with one home run and 13 RBI in 129 at-bats since the All-Star break.
