Braves signed infielder Joe Thurston to a minor league contract.
Thurston, 30, finally got a crack at legitimate playing time in 2009 but hit just .225/.316/.330 with one homer and 25 RBI in 267 at-bats. He's unlikely to make a major impact for the Braves next season.

 Joe Thurston-3B - Braves Dec. 18 - 12:57 pm et

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Braves have agreed to terms on a one-year split contract with Joe Thurston.
Thurston, 30, hit just .225/.316/.330 with one homer and 25 RBI in 267 at-bats this past season with the Cardinals but showed a decent level of versatility on the St. Louis infield. The Phillies, Yankees, Rockies, Dodgers, and Indians also showed interest, according to his agent.

 Joe Thurston-3B - Braves Nov. 4 - 1:33 pm et

Cardinals sent infielder Joe Thurston and RHP Matt Scherer outright to Triple-A Memphis.
St. Louis has cleared four 40-man roster spots in the past 24 hours. After a decade in the minors Thurston got his first extended chance in the majors this season, starting 68 games for the Cardinals, but he hit just .225/.316/.330.
 Mark DeRosa-3B - Giants Jul. 1 - 5:45 pm et

According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mark DeRosa is "day-to-day" with a mild sprain of his left wrist.
DeRosa will be out for a few days, but is expected to avoid the disabled list. He tweaked his left wrist Tuesday during an at-bat and was seen wearing a brace Wednesday afternoon. Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa said there is "reason for optimism." Look for Joe Thurston to fill in while he's sidelined.

 Mark DeRosa-3B - Giants Jul. 1 - 12:59 am et

Mark DeRosa will be reexamined Wednesday after tweaking his left wrist during Tuesday's game.
"I took a swing there my second at-bat and felt a little tweak in my left wrist," DeRosa said. "I went in to hit off the tee after coming in from playing the field, and it just didn't feel right. I felt like I should come out of the game and get it looked at." The Cards will probably go back to Joe Thurston at third on Wednesday.

 Khalil Greene-SS - Rangers Jun. 19 - 10:49 pm et

Khalil Greene left Friday's game with a bruised foot.
Greene was just activated from the disabled list Friday for anxiety issues and was struck down by a line drive to his foot in the fifth inning. It was unfortunate as Greene was having a big game with a double, home run and a walk before leaving the game. He was replaced by Joe Thurston.
