According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Reds may be forced to trade one or two of their stars this winter as an overall cost-cutting maneuver.
Cincinnati's payroll stood at $71 million in 2009 and sources have indicated it must be cut closer to $65 million for 2010. "We're going to probably have less to spend this year than we have in the past," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty admitted Tuesday. "It just depends on how [ticket] sales go this offseason." Price suggests Brandon Phillips, Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang could be on the move.

Phillips batted .276 with a modest 20 homers on the season, but thanks to him batting cleanup for the Reds he finished with 98 RBI. Since he also kicked in 25 steals and 78 runs scored he ended up being worthy of his high-round pre-season ADP.

Brandon Phillips went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Reds to a 5-3 win over the Pirates on Wednesday.
A wrist injury didn't Phillips from collecting seven hits and two homers in the series against the Pirates. The 30-30 season that still looked like a slim possibility at the All-Star break won't materialize, but Phillips is going to finish with at least 20 homers and 25 steals and he's just 10 RBI away from matching his career high of 94.

Brandon Phillips clarified comments he made about his injured left wrist on Monday night.
"My wrist is not broken," said Phillips. "I said fractured. I didn't know fractured and broken were the same thing." After all this, it turns out that Phillips has a deep bone bruise in the wrist. He suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch by J.D. Martin of the Nationals on August 15. It doesn't seem to matter since he is in the lineup on Tuesday, anyway.

Brandon Phillips revealed Monday that he's been playing with a hairline fracture in his left wrist for the past two weeks.
It's not yet clear how the Reds will play this, but our recommendation would be to shut him down for the rest of the season. After all, Great American Ballpark drew less than 2,000 fans for a day game Monday. It's not like anyone would even notice. Either way, Drew Sutton is in line for an uptick in playing time.

Brandon Phillips, bothered by a sore wrist after being hit Aug. 20, is hitting .207 in his last 15 games entering Saturday.
"Everybody is bothered by something in September," said manager Dusty Baker If you're not bothered by something this time of year, you haven't been playing very much." Maybe so, but it looks as if Phillips is really ailing and needs some time off.
