The Cardinals and OF Ryan Ludwick avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $5.45 million contract.
Ludwick probably won't ever touch the .299/.375/.591 batting line, 37 home runs and 113 RBI that he posted in 2008, but he did fairly well last year and gained a nice raise from the $3.7 million he made in 2009. The 31-year-old right fielder had a .776 OPS and 22 dingers last year.

Ryan Ludwick will bat second for Saturday's Game 3 against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers have had no interest in pitching to Albert Pujols, so this move bookends him with more potent bats. Ludwick is 3-for-8 with an RBI in the series while Pujols is 1-for-6 with three walks. Colby Rasmus, who is 3-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI in the series, will bat fifth. Matt Holliday remains in his familiar cleanup spot.

Ryan Ludwick was 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in a win over the Pirates on Friday night.
A career-night for Ludwick, he hit two doubles while blasting a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run homer in the eighth for some additional insurance. It was Ludwick's first home run in a month. Including Friday's explosion, he has just five bombs in 153 at-bats since the All-Star break.

Ryan Ludwick had a pair of two-run homers and a double to drive in all four Cardinals runs Sunday night in a win over the Cubs.
The two teams split today's doubleheader and the four-game series overall. Ludwick hit both of his homers tonight off Randy Wells. He's the first Cardinal ever to have a pair of two-homer games at Wrigley Field in the same season. Take that, Pujols.

Ryan Ludwick reached four times and drove in four runs as the Cardinals beat the Cubs 8-3 Friday.
Ludwick collected three singles to raise his batting average 10 points to .251. He also delivered a sac fly and walked. It looks like Ludwick's hamstring problems are behind him.
