Rangers GM Jon Daniels doesn't expect to work out an agreement with free agent Marlon Byrd during the 15-day exclusive negotiating window.
"Marlon was obviously a big part of our club," Daniels said Thursday. "To his credit, he's put himself in a position to see what's out there, and he's going to explore that. We're going to explore our own alternatives, including the guys we already have. In a perfect world, we'd like to have Marlon back. It's just not going to happen in the exclusive window period, if it's going to happen at all." Expect Byrd to leave for a multiyear deal elsewhere. The Rangers will probably pursue a one-year option to replace him, such as Jermaine Dye or Vladimir Guerrero. Source: Rangers.mlb.com
