Marlon Byrd is unlikely to return to the Rangers, according to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.
"We've had a decent amount of conversation," Rangers GM Jon Daniels said. "I expect them to test the market. Based on what they're looking for...we're not in a position to do that right now. We expect them to talk to other clubs and see what's out there. We're going to be looking at alternatives." Texas is set in center field with Josh Hamilton and Julio Borbon.

 Marlon Byrd-OF - Rangers Nov. 5 - 5:38 pm et

Rangers GM Jon Daniels doesn't expect to work out an agreement with free agent Marlon Byrd during the 15-day exclusive negotiating window.
"Marlon was obviously a big part of our club," Daniels said Thursday. "To his credit, he's put himself in a position to see what's out there, and he's going to explore that. We're going to explore our own alternatives, including the guys we already have. In a perfect world, we'd like to have Marlon back. It's just not going to happen in the exclusive window period, if it's going to happen at all." Expect Byrd to leave for a multiyear deal elsewhere. The Rangers will probably pursue a one-year option to replace him, such as Jermaine Dye or Vladimir Guerrero.

 Marlon Byrd-OF - Rangers Oct. 6 - 2:47 pm et

General manager Jon Daniels said he plans to work on a deal with impending free-agent Marlon Byrd.
Byrd made $3.06 million this season and should garner a sizable pay raise behind a .283/.329/.479 line with 20 homers, 89 RBI and 43 doubles. Daniels doesn't think the financial state of the franchise should have any factor in resigning the 32-year-old outfielder.

Marlon Byrd (hip) is expected to return to the Rangers' lineup Friday.
Byrd reported improvement after an intense workout on Thursday. "I should be ready to go," he said. "I want to finish this thing out." The soon-to-be free agent outfielder will be seeking a rather large pay day this offseason after batting .280/.325/.479 with 20 home runs and 89 RBI through 539 at-bats.
