A source told Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports that a trade between the Dodgers and Reds for right-hander Aaron Harang is "not happening."
Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times first reported news of the talks Thursday morning, but it never made a whole lot of sense. The Dodgers don't have a clear budget this offseason due to the Frank and Jamie McCourt divorce proceedings and probably can't commit to the $27 million Harang is owed over the next two years. The 31-year-old finished with a 6-14 record, 4.21 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in '09 and a 6-17 record with a 4.79 ERA in '08.

 Aaron Harang-S - Reds Dec. 17 - 9:02 am et

The Dodgers are exploring a trade with the Reds for right-hander Aaron Harang, reports Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.
He's not Roy Halladay or even Randy Wolf, but at the very least, Harang would have the potential to be a front-end starter. Not surprisingly, the Dodgers are asking the Reds to pay a portion of the $15 million Harang is guaranteed moving forward. Harang is owed $12.5 million next season with a $12.75 million club option for 2011 -- if he is traded, the option becomes a $14 million mutual option with a $2.5 million buyout. The Reds are believed to be asking for one or two players on the team's major league roster in return.

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Reds are still trying to trade right-hander Aaron Harang.
If general manager Walt Jocketty still wants to slash payroll, freeing themselves of Harang's salary would be a good start. Harang is owed $12.5 million next season with a $12.75 million club option for 2011. He has struggled for two straight seasons, with some injuries along the way, but he's worth a gamble for a team who wouldn't want to absorb the large part of a massive contract like Derek Lowe of the Braves.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, "the perception of rival executives is that the Reds' preference is to move Aaron Harang, rather than Bronson Arroyo."
It makes sense. Harang has struggled for two straight seasons and is owed $12.5 million in 2010. The 31-year-old finished with a 6-14 record, 4.21 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in '09 and a 6-17 record with a 4.79 ERA in '08. Arroyo, on the other hand, posted a 3.84 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP this past year while tallying 15 wins. He's 32 and is set to earn $11 million in the upcoming season.

According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Reds may be forced to trade one or two of their stars this winter as an overall cost-cutting maneuver.
Cincinnati's payroll stood at $71 million in 2009 and sources have indicated it must be cut closer to $65 million for 2010. "We're going to probably have less to spend this year than we have in the past," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty admitted Tuesday. "It just depends on how [ticket] sales go this offseason." Price suggests Brandon Phillips, Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang could be on the move.

The Reds have hired Bryan Price as their next pitching coach.
Dick Pole got the boot after watching over a staff that posted a 4.18 team ERA in 2009. Price, 47, has been a pitching coach in the majors for the past 10 seasons, most recently with the Diamondbacks. He resigned from that post after upper management fired friend and manager Bob Melvin.
