| Marco Scutaro's 2009 Profile | | Well if nothing else, he’s consistent, as Scutaro posted his third straight season of recording a hit in 26 percent of his at-bats. Scutaro did see a career-high number of games (145) and plate appearances (592) due to a number of injuries in the Blue Jays’ infield, but he still added just seven homers and seven steals. The Jays seem happy with his play, and they don’t seem to have the budget to add a true starter. That means Scutaro is currently their likely starter at shortstop and leadoff hitter. John McDonald will eat into his playing time somewhat, but another 400 at-bat season seems likely. He’ll produce enough runs and RBI while not destroying your batting average to have AL-only league value.Updated Jul. 9: Marco Scutaro is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays. John McDonald will start and play shortstop in his place. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | TOR | 439 | 115 | .262 | 8 | 46 | 63 | 5 | .338 | .374 | 164 | .712 | | 2008 | TOR | 517 | 138 | .267 | 7 | 60 | 76 | 7 | .341 | .356 | 184 | .697 | | 2007 | OAK | 338 | 88 | .260 | 7 | 41 | 49 | 2 | .332 | .361 | 122 | .693 | | 2006 | OAK | 365 | 97 | .266 | 5 | 41 | 52 | 5 | .350 | .397 | 145 | .747 |

General manager Alex Anthopoulos said that while he is open to bringing back Marco Scutaro, Rod Barajas and John McDonald, that doesn't mean it will happen.
"As much as I like John McDonald, Rod Barajas and Marco Scutaro, there might be alternatives that make this organization better and are the right alternatives for this team," said Anthopoulos. "We'd like to bring them back, (but) everything has to fit with respect to what the alternatives are and with respect to what their financial requirements are. I'm starting to get a pretty good handle on where their expectations are with respect to the market and what they feel their value might be." Among the impending free agents, Scutaro, 34, figures to drum up the most interest on the open market. As a Type A free agent, he could net the Blue Jays two first round draft picks if he turns down arbitration in order to sign with another team. Source: The Canadian Press
