Royals declined outfielder Coco Crisp's $8 million option for 2010.
With Crisp coming off season-ending rotator cuff surgery on both his shoulders, the Royals wisely chose his $500,000 buyout rather than exercising the option. Limited to just 41 games in 2009, Crisp batted .228/.336/.378 with three home runs, 14 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 180 at-bats. Though the option was declined, he could return to the Royals with an incentive-laden contract.

 Miguel Olivo-C - Royals Nov. 4 - 9:15 pm et

The Royals will make decisions regarding the options for Miguel Olivo, Coco Crisp and Yasuhiko Yabuta following the World Series.
Crisp and Yabuta have $500,000 buyouts on their contracts. The Royals have five days after the World Series to decide whether to exercise their options for 2010, but it really shouldn't take that long, even for Dayton Moore. While the Royals could decide to bring the rehabbing Crisp back on a new incentive-laden deal, Olivo's case is a bit more complicated. He has a $3.3 million option for 2010, so even if the Royals are willing to bring him back, Olivo may choose to become a free agent. Olivo batted .249/.292/.490 with 23 homers, 65 RBI and a .781 OPS in 390 at-bats this season. The Royals must decide within three days of the World Series to bring him back.

Coco Crisp, who has already undergone season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, will also have a procedure on his left shoulder.
The damage in his left shoulder isn't believed to be as bad, so this shouldn't alter his timetable. It's his right shoulder that will determine whether he's ready for 2010.

Royals transferred outfielder Coco Crisp to the 60-day disabled list.
Crisp underwent season-ending surgery on June 24 to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He might not be ready for the start of spring training next year, which could complicate his contract status: The 29-year-old has an $8 million option for next season with a $500,000 buyout.

Coco Crisp underwent successfully surgery Wednesday to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Crisp's rehab could take anywhere from 6-12 months. "There’s a certain point in the rehab process where they determine how fast it’s going to go," said manager Trey Hillman. "I’ve heard 6-9 (months), and I’ve heard 9-12 (months) depending on the severity in terms of the healing of the body." Crisp has an $8M option next season with a $500,000 buyout, so a lengthy rehab could force the Royals to make a tough decision.

Manager Trey Hillman revealed that Coco Crisp will undergo right shoulder surgery Wednesday and miss the remainder of the season.
The Royals confirmed that Crisp's labrum is torn and will be repaired by Dr. James Andrews. Hitting just .228 with a .378 slugging percentage, the injury has been affecting Crisp's swing throughout the first two and half months of the season. Mitch Maier will likely take over full-time in center field, though he has modest fantasy value in AL-only leagues.
