A source informed Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com Thursday that Freddy Sanchez's shoulder surgery took place four whole weeks ago.
It's odd that the Giants would think they could keep the procedure under wraps, especially in this day and age. Sanchez's initial rehab timeline was eight weeks, according to Urban's source, but the second baseman experienced a setback recently. The cloud of shadiness surrounding this whole mess has us thinking he almost certainly won't be ready by Opening Day, and maybe not until early May. Juan Uribe is expected to fill in at second base and is a worthwhile draft day selection in NL-only leagues.

Freddy Sanchez underwent arthroscopic surgery recently on his left shoulder and might not be ready for Opening Day.
"He's going to be a little delayed," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday evening in a phone interview with a local San Francisco radio station. "It'll be close if he can go opening day or not." Sanchez also had left knee surgery back in late September. Juan Uribe may have to fill in at second base for the few weeks that he's out.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants and Freddy Sanchez have agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract.
It's better than picking up his $8.1 million option for 2009. Sanchez wasn't a great bet on a multiyear deal, considering that he's turning 32 this winter and second basemen tend to decline quickly in their early 30s, but this probably won't turn into an Edgar Renteria-style disaster, either. If Sanchez is healthy, he'll be reasonably productive. If not, then the Giants will have alternatives.

Freddy Sanchez underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee Wednesday.
Sanchez is done for the rest of the year, but should be ready for spring training. The 31-year-old second baseman finished the season at .293/.326/.416 with seven home runs and 41 RBI. He batted .284/.295/.324 with one home run and seven RBI in 102 at-bats after coming over from the Pirates. The Giants aren't likely to pick up his $8.1 million option for 2010.

Freddy Sanchez will undergo surgery on his left knee next week.
With the Giants essentially out of the playoff race, Sanchez is done for the rest of the year. He'll undergo surgery to repair a cartilage tear. The Giants aren't likely to pick up his $8.1 million option for 2010, but there remains a possibility that they could bring him back on a two-year deal. The 31-year-old second baseman finishes his season at .293/.326/.416 with seven home runs and 41 RBI. He batted .284/.295/.324 with one home run and seven RBI in 102 at-bats since coming over from the Pirates. All this for Tim Alderson?

Freddy Sanchez's left knee will require surgery to repair a meniscus tear.
The Giants are hopeful that the procedure can be put off until the offseason. "We'll wait and see what happens in these next two games," manager Bruce Bochy said. Sanchez aggravated the injury on Monday. There is some healthy buyer's remorse going on in San Francisco right now.
