Jeremy Guthrie requested $3.625 million and was offered $2.3 million from the Orioles when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Guthrie entered 2009 on a roll, having posted consecutive sub-4.00 ERA seasons, but he faltered and wound up with a 10-17 record, 5.04 ERA, and 1.42 WHIP. He also struggled to strike batters out and isn't a great bet to rebound fully this season. The righty should be left alone in the early rounds of drafts this spring.

 Jeremy Guthrie-S - Orioles Oct. 4 - 4:50 pm et

Jeremy Guthrie yielded four runs in 7 2/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Guthrie struck out five and walked just two, but three homers turned it into a mediocre outing. After two straight sub-4.00 ERA seasons, Guthrie had his worst season to date with a 10-17 record, 5.04 ERA, and 1.42 WHIP. A declining strikeout rate and trading ground balls for fly balls were the biggest culprits. Some rebound in 2010 is possible, but he's not a strong option.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed three runs over seven innings in a 3-1 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night as the Orioles lost their 12th straight game.
The 12-game losing streak is the most in the majors this season. Guthrie has lost four straight decisions and five out of his last six. He certainly pitched well enough to win, as he scattered six hits while striking out four and walking one. He tossed five scoreless innings between giving up two runs in the first and one in the seventh. Guthrie is 10-17 with a 5.05 ERA over 32 starts this season.

Jeremy Guthrie took a loss after yielding five runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Sunday.
Guthrie walked three, hit a batter, and gave up 12 hits, so it's impressive that he allowed just five runs. Guthrie had recorded four straight quality starts before the outing, so it's fair to cut him some slack against the Yankees. Since he'll get the Red Sox later in the week he's not worth using in AL-only leagues.
 Jeremy Guthrie-S - Orioles Sep. 6 - 4:32 pm et

Jeremy Guthrie blanked the Rangers for seven innings to earn a victory on Sunday.
Look who finally decided to come out and play. Guthrie has turned in four straight quality starts to drag his ERA under 5.00 for the first time since the end of May. Matt Albers and Kam Micholio finished up the 7-0 shutout today.
 Jeremy Guthrie-S - Orioles Aug. 31 - 11:08 pm et

Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs over six innings in a loss to the Yankees on Monday night.
Guthrie was coming off a pair of strong road starts and tonight he took care of business against a menacing Yankee lineup, even though he couldn't match Andy Pettitte's brilliance. If Guthrie can finish strong, it'd be a big plus for this Orioles team.
