The Padres and outfielder Scott Hairston avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.45 million contract.
Hairston requested $2.9 million and was offered $2.1 million from the Padres when arbitration figures were exchanged last Tuesday, so this resolution seems fair to both parties. The 29-year-old outfielder was re-acquired from the Athletics in the Kevin Kouzmanoff trade earlier this month and should be an everyday player again for San Diego -- even if he won't come close to replicating the .299/.358/.533 line he put up for the Padres before getting dealt to the A's in July.

According to Corey Brock of MLB.com, the Padres have set an arbitration date with outfielder Scott Hairston.
He adds that they hope it doesn't get that far and a resolution can be reached next week. The 29-year-old outfielder was re-acquired from the Athletics in the Kevin Kouzmanoff trade earlier this month.

Outfielder Scott Hairston was traded from the A's back to the Padres in a four-player deal.
The A's had just acquired Hairston from San Diego for right-handers Sean Gallagher, Craig Italiano and Ryan Webb in July. Hairston is thrilled with the trade, particularly since the A's had him penciled into a reserve role following the Coco Crisp signing. He should be an everyday player again for San Diego, at least until he gets hurt.
 Kevin Kouzmanoff-3B - Athletics Jan. 15 - 7:39 pm et

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics have acquired third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and a prospect from the Padres in exchange for outfielders Scott Hairston and Aaron Cunningham.
The Athletics have been in the market for a competent third baseman all winter and after Adrian Beltre signed with Boston, they turned their attention back to Kouzmanoff. The 28-year-old third baseman has a .261/.308/.435 batting line in four major league seasons. His exit will clear the way for Chase Headley to be the everyday third baseman in San Diego.

Scott Hairston probably won't play this week because of pain in his back and hip.
Eric Patterson has been helping to fill in for him in the outfield, so he's worth using in AL-only leagues.
