Adam Wainwright was denied in his bid for win No. 20, allowing three runs over six-plus innings as part of a no-decision in an eventual 12-6 loss to the Brewers on Friday night.
There will be no 20-game winners this season. Wainwright certainly deserved better, but Kyle McClellan coughed up the lead he inherited in the seventh. And so, he finishes the season at 19-8 with a 2.63 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 34 starts. He leads the league with 19 wins and 233 innings pitched, so he's certainly worthy of whatever Cy Young consideration he is getting, regardless of whether he has 20 wins or not. It certainly would have helped his case, though.
