The Marlins and Cody Ross have scheduled an arbitration hearing for February 15 to determine the outfielder's 2010 salary.
A three-person panel will be on hand in St. Petersburg, Florida to hear arguments and rule whether Ross will make the $4.45 million he requested last Tuesday or the $4.2 million that the Marlins offered. Ross, 29, hit an impressive .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats. The Marlins, though, haven't lost an arbitration case since 2002.

Cody Ross asked for $4.45 million and was offered $4.2 million from the Marlins when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
It's surprising to see how close the two sides are considering a report we filed earlier this afternoon stating that a hearing might actually be necessary. It seems like the parties should be able to find common ground within the next few weeks. Ross, 29, hit .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats while earning $2.25 million.

The Marlins may require an arbitration hearing in order to work out a 2010 contract for outfielder Cody Ross.
The two sides have failed to reach agreement on a deal this winter. Ross, 29, hit .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats while earning $2.25 million. He's in line for a substantial raise but the budget-conscious Fish are typically hesitant to offer such things.

Joe Frisaro of MLBlogs.com reports that Cody Ross' chances of returning from a wrist injury this weekend "seem remote."
We'd advise hanging onto Ross in NL-only leagues, but mixed league owners will probably want to avoid the risk and look elsewhere for production this weekend.

Cody Ross (wrist) was able to swing a bat Tuesday and is aiming to return to the Marlins' lineup this weekend.
The Marlins outfielder hasn't played since Saturday due to a bruised left wrist. "It feels a little bit better," Ross said after Tuesday's workout. He's batting .270 this season with 24 dingers and 90 RBI.

Cody Ross is out of Monday's lineup due to a left wrist contusion he sustained Saturday.
Ross could miss the rest of the season with the injury. Nick Johnson is also out of the lineup again with flu-like symptoms. Brett Carroll is in right field and Ross Gload is at first base.
