Brewers manager Ken Macha would only identify two "locks" for his 2010 starting rotation in a chat with reporters Tuesday.
No surprise, Yovani Gallardo was one. In somewhat of a surprise, Manny Parra is the other. Parra went 11-11 with an ugly 6.39 ERA in 2009, causing some to project him as a reliever. It seems as if the Brewers are still high on the left-hander. Macha refused to guarantee Jeff Suppan and Dave Bush spots in the rotation, and there's talk that Bush might actually be non-tendered Saturday. The Brewers are reportedly closing in on a three-year deal with Randy Wolf that would give them three guaranteed starters.

Manny Parra will undergo an arthroscopic clean-up procedure on the AC joint of his pitching shoulder Tuesday.
Parra had been pitching with discomfort in his shoulder, which could in part explain a lost season in which he posted a 11-11 record and a 6.36 ERA.

Manny Parra was lit up for five runs in 2 2/3 innings by the Rockies on Thursday.
Parra took the loss to finish 11-11 with a 6.36 ERA. He turned in just 11 quality starts in 27 tries. The Brewers simply must get him turned around if they're going to contend next year. He's plenty talented enough to be a successful third starter in the majors.

Manny Parra allowed two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings in an 8-4 win over the Phillies on Friday night.
It was his first start back after being skipped twice due to neck spasms. The Phillies actually scored two runs in the fourth before even recording a hit. Paul Hoover eventually ended the no-hit bid with a single in the fifth. Parra allowed just four hits while striking out eight and walking one. Now 11-10 with a 6.16 ERA, Parra has actually won eight of his last 10 decisions dating back to July.

Manny Parra (neck) will start on Friday against the Phillies.
Parra has missed two starts with neck spasms. He returns to take the place of Yovani Gallardo in the rotation now that he has been shut down for the rest of the season. Parra is 10-10 with a 6.42 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 25 starts this season.

An MRI on Manny Parra's stiff neck Wednesday revealed "no significant findings," according to Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash.
Doctors believe the problem is muscular and not structural. Parra's scheduled start on Friday will go to either RHP Josh Butler or LHP Chris Narveson. The Brewers will recall Mike Burns from Triple-A Nashville on Friday to give the club additional pitching depth. Parra, meanwhile, will continue physical therapy.
