Sean Burnett is still struggling with a left thumb injury and will continue to be used in a sparing role for the Nationals.
"I don't know how much more he's going to pitch for us if this continues," manager Jim Riggleman said. "He's trying to gut out and pitch for us, but I don't want to put him out there if it's hurting." Burnett suffered a bad bruise on a comebacker August 24 and has pitched a whole inning just once since then. It was a tough break for Burnett, as he had been pitching well since being acquired from the Pirates, but caution is the right way to go. Source: Washington Times
