According to Jane Lee of MLB.com, the Athletics have signed OF Gabe Gross to a one-year, $750,000 contract.
He could make up to $1 million with plate appearance incentives. Gross, 30, batted .227/.326/.355 with six home runs and 36 RBI in 282 at-bats with the Rays last season. He figures to be the club's fourth outfielder, leaving former first-round compensation pick Travis Buck possibly on the cutting block. The Athletics will need to make a corresponding roster move in order to make room for Gross.

The A's and Gabe Gross are discussing a one-year deal, according to the FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Poor Travis Buck just can't catch a break. He already might have faced an uphill battle to make the team. If Gross comes on board, that'd leave just two bench spots open, with Eric Chavez destined for one if he shows up healthy. The other would go to Jake Fox, Eric Patterson or Aaron Miles.

Rays non-tendered outfielder Gabe Gross.
Gross was a fine platoon outfielder for the first half of last season, but he faded all the way to .227/.326/.355 over the course of an awful second half. The Rays may turn his spot over to Matt Joyce next year. Gross should find a spot as a fourth outfielder elsewhere. Perhaps a particularly cheap team will sign him to start against right-handers.

Gabe Gross went 0-for-3 before being removed from Sunday's game, leaving him 3-for-31 this month.
Gross did a nice job as a platoon right fielder in the first half, hitting .276/.379/.423 in 163 at-bats, but he's been a bust in the second half and it now appears unlikely that the Rays will bring him back next year. The bizarre thing is that they never gave Matt Joyce a chance to replace him.

B.J. Upton is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
The slumping outfielder is just 3-for-27 with one RBI in his last seven games and will hopefully get a boost from a day off. Gabe Gross gets the start in right field with Gabe Kapler in center.
