Luis Ayala was unharmed during an apparent kidnap attempt by gunmen at his home in the northern Mexico state of Sinaloa.
Martin Robles, a spokesman for the state prosecutors' office, said Ayala was the intended target. Robles said gunmen in three vehicles forced their way into Ayala's home near the city of Los Mochis on Monday by shooting open the door. Police responded to an emergency call and scared the assailants off, finding Ayala handcuffed. Ayala, who turns 32 this month, signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers in December.

Luis Ayala has inked a minor league deal with the Dodgers, reports Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times.
Ayala can earn a base salary of $750,000 should he make the big league roster. The 31-year old had a 5.62 ERA in 38 appearances between the Twins and Marlins in 2009. The Rockies were also competing for Ayala's services.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com writes that free agent right-hander Luis Ayala will likely sign a minor league deal with the Dodgers or Rockies.
He was linked to the Dodgers last week. Ayala, who turns 32 in January, had a 5.62 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 38 appearances between the Twins and Marlins in 2009. He declared himself a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Marlins in September.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers are in discussions with right-hander Luis Ayala about a minor league deal.
Ayala, who turns 32 in January, had a 5.62 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 38 appearances between the Twins and Marlins in 2009. He declared himself a free agent in September after being designated for assignment by Florida.

RHP Luis Ayala has opted to become a free agent.
Ayala was designated for assignment Aug. 31 after giving up three runs in 1/3 of an inning to the Padres Aug. 29. Ayala pitched well enough for the Twins before being released and hooking on in Florida. He pitched well for Florida's Triple-A affiliate but didn't get a long leash in the bigs. He'll land somewhere for the final days of September.

Marlins designated RHP Luis Ayala for assignment.
Ayala gave up zero runs in 10 innings at Triple-A New Orleans prior to his promotion, but posted a miserable 11.74 ERA in 7 2/3 innings with the Fish. He has been designated for assignment or released three times this season.
